Normaly the path is steam/steam_apps/common/Stronghold Crusader 2
(and the editor would be in there with the game files)
It's something you have to install separately. There will be a big list, find the Stronghold Cursader 2 Map Editor, r-click (I think) on the title and pick Install.
This game is worth the price for sure. Great fun.
And cat, thankyou. I have now found the editor.. wierd that they do it like this. every other map editor I have used has always been in with the game files.
You Sir! (or madame) are a legend.
That is going to save me at least a few mins fafing around trying to figure it out.
If you have any other helpful tips, or insight into just how deep you can go with the map editor I will greatly apreciate it.
(ideally I would like to create custom missions for a new campaign [but im guessing that will involve modding the game and editor?])
Only problem is.. where do I put this .shscn file so that I can play-test it?
But the directory it goes into appears to be:
Steam\steamapps\common\Stronghold Crusader 2\assets\maps
There's also a Maps folder under the My Documents directory, but the editor doesn't put anything there, so I'm not sure what that's for. Maybe when you share files/install other people's files? Dunno.
Ah... I selected export.. guess thats where my problem lies. I didn't just create a map though, I created a scenario. And so it has a different file extention than anything in the maps folder. Hopefully this will still work though.
Im guessing you are right about the folder in documents being for community maps. I will test a few things out and report back with my findings. Or maybe some more questions... who knows.
1.Place the map in the games map folder and it shows up for skirmishes. There is a naming convention to follow though so it knows how many players for the map.
2.Place the map in the map folder in documents and it will show up in the community maps selection in game. I believe scenarios must be put here also as putting the map in the scenarios folder in documents doesnt make the map show up anywhere.
3.Place the map in the games map folder with the naming convention for freebuild maps and it should show up in the freebuild map list (yet to test this but im sure it will work)
Lastly. I am assuming they will implement steam workshop at some point and that at that time the scenarios folder is where mission based maps will end up.
Using the editor is quite strait forward. It reminds me of the starcraft one "world builder". Only a bit easier to use.
Not exactly the right thread to post that in. But I will bite.
1.if you have an obscure email provider you might need to use a different email address like gmail instead.
2.If not then maybe their master server is down for maintenance or offline temporarily for another reason.
3.Or you could have a ♥♥♥♥ firewall like Norton 360, blocking the game from sending out the packets.
Those are the only three reasons I can think of.
I am fairly sure though that you only need to submit an email if you want the extra banners. There is a close button that will get you past that screen and into the games menu. Next time you start the game it will ask for an email again so don't worry about missing the 4 free banners you get for signing up to their mailing list.
Hm, interesting. I didn't realize there were "naming" conventions. So far I've only been making simple test maps, that I use in sandbox for statistical, design and other tests. I keep naming them "Ale Consumption" or "Unit Limit Test" etc. They show up just fine. Maybe sandbox isn't particular about naming since it doesn't need to know number of players. Heh.
