Performance issues
So I'm looking for help with performance of this game. Is it really that bad optimized?

System:
i7-4790k @ 4.0GHz
NVIDIA GTX 1080
16GB RAM
SSD
Windows 10

What is the problem that I get about 15-30 FPS when having about 200 soldiers. That's ridiculous...Anything I could do?

Well every other game runs perfectly fine like GTAV, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, AC Odyssey...Definitely using the 1080, not the igpu...

it seems to be for this game though

Hmm...Checked again, it's definitely using the 1080 not the iGPU...

Do you recommend any similar games that were released in past 5 years?

Yeah I see. I went back to Stronghold 2 now. Crusader 2 is unplayble...
I hope Stronghold Next will be something good like Stronghold 2

Played this game quite a bit with pretty much the same setup. The problem is the software not your hardware.

The game sometimes acts as if it has a memory leak that gets worse the longer you play the game, I thought game programmers got rid of them in the '90's and the devs swear that isn't the problem. Despite that, it still ACTS like a memory leak.

My solution for playing single player and the speed slowing down is to save the game, then exit the entire game, restart, then reload the saved game. I posted that solution a LONG time ago and the feedback from it was mixed - sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't.

As Achilleslastand stated, it's the program & not your hardware.

Multiplayer is a different story. Sometimes the game would slow down to the point of being unresponsive just as a major battle started and all you could do was watch as your entire army got slaughtered. I played with the same group of players and which player got hit with the lag was completely random and had nothing to do with who had a better internet connection or hardware.

No optimization or collision detection in single player and a more stable connection for multiplayer are the most important items that I hope they include in the next version of Stronghold. They shoud look to StarCraft 2 as an inspiration on how to make a stable and fully functional RTS game.

I have i5 6600k 16GB ddr4 ram and Rx 480 8G and I can't play this game because of same problem. I'll never pre order new stronghold game ever, they can't optimize games.
