Crusader troops + buying weapons or mercenaries ?

Say 2 players had 10,000 gold each. One player bought all mercenaries, the other player bought all of his weapons and bought crusader troops. Who would win? The mercenaries should win imo or else it makes them pointless, or would it be a really close tie?

obviously making weapons and getting crusader troops is best, but let's pretend making weapons isn't an option :)

The mercenaries would win because: Arabian Swordsmen. Also the Crusader would have less troops considering he has to buy the weapons, so his strongest units will be outnumbered.

Crusader troops of course, because they can make OP squad with crossbowmen+picemen+sergeants.

Even if you're buying all the weapons? What's the point of mercenaries then they would serve no purpose if that's true, I was looking at all the units stats and it's not worth buying the weapons at all. Either make the weapons or buy mercenaries.

Although that is a deadly combo I will give you that on the side haha

Just every unit has his own employment. Slaves wish slavemasters burn buildings and fight with nonarmored enemies, archers are fast and have large range, their power in their number, horse archers uses for raid into enemy castle, sworsmen have numerical advantage against knights, oil pot thrower burn everything and everyone, healers and assassins not needed be described, derwishes and sassanids are charging units for dealing big damage.
If you don`t use right tactic of course you waste your mercenaries.

Yeah of course :) just a little side question do crusader archers have a further range than arabian archers?

it all depends what units u have.....but more importantly is HOW you fight....
i wood only buy weapons made out of wood ( like bows/crossbow) , i wouldn't buy iron-based weapons , they just cost too much!

If u use dervish wisely u can destroy Korsar's crossbow "squad" easily...its how u use each unit and the balance of your whole army

It depends on map, settings, different situations, gold, peasants available.....

For example if enemy is standing with army in front of your barracks it would be wiser to buy some melee weapons and spam crusaders then sending arab swordsmen or something.

everyone makes mistakes.....question was who wins...arabian or european....soo if u don't just spam boring x-.bow and use other troops well you can win as well.....there is more than just one unit in this game ... u think nobody can break ur boring army?

You always thought derwishes are OP, because never knew how to protect against them, that`s all that I meant.

you said "Crusader troops of course" to who wins....obviously you can use arab units...like derivsh and destroy your crossbow army when u attack at the right time!!

At the same time with 10 000g, you spend a lot of gold on buying weapons 20 crossbow cost between 300-400g, 20 armour cost 600-700g.. + the cost of each crossbow soldier...so u will spend around 1200-1300g just for 20 x-bow

if use that gold to buy a variety of arab units u can win as well...that was my point!!

Well I was looking at all the units stats and did some math and comparing archers to arab archers and swordsmen to arab swordsmen, arab wins in both of those categories (considering you're buying the weapons) buying weapons is not worth in that situation... buying a bit of armor and pikes might be worth it for sergeants but usually you shouldn't waste gold buying weapons
