There is an extensive topic debating this: https://steamcommunity.com/app/2328760/discussions/0/6169410373943850589/
There are loads of new tables which are exclusive to PFX so perhaps stick to those and consider legacy content over time?
Nobody is forcing you to buy anything. All the tables you have in FX3 are still there and can still be played. But if you decide you want to play your FX3 tables in FX, for whatever reason, 'll tell you the cheapest path to doing it.
If you want to buy some of the new tables that were never in FX3, you can do that at any time but I strongly recommend you wait for one of the quarterly Steam sales. You'll often see discounts of up to 50% during these sales.
There are occasionally good discounts on tables at other times but you have to check the store every week to catch those.
Do not expect new release tables to have big discounts during the first few months. In most cases 10% is the biggest discount you'll see until they have been out a while.
As far as "rebuying" tables goes... the best strategy, again, is to wait for one of the quarterly Steam sales. The next one starts March 14 and ends March 21.
The spring and fall sales both last 7 days while the summer and winter sales last 14. There are other sales of various types throughout the year that last anywhere from a few days to a week.
If you wait for the big sales, you should be able to get the FX versions of a lot of tables for anywhere from 50% to 85% off the usual price. You get bigger discounts on tables or table packs you own in FX3.
I think I even got 90% off once.
Unless money just isn't a big factor, or if you just really , really need to have all your tables in the same launcher, I wouldn't worry about getting the Star Wars and Marvel tables in FX. Except for a few tables which have had bugs fixed, they seem to play pretty much the same in FX3 so stick with that.
Finally, be aware that there are a few tables in FX3 that have not been released (as yet) for FX.
I hope someone finds this guide useful.
I instantly uninstalled it and thought nah they can get fu**ed. I rarely double dip, but for a barley noticble update on old content just seems predatory and I can't support it.
Strictly, no. You're frankly in a better spot, since your FX3 set is incomplete. Do know that FX3 and FX have different sets of physics involved, and they don't play exactly the same way. FX2 to FX3 had minimal changes.
What does your FX3 collection look like, out of curiosity? Most of the FX3 games will get ported over, eventually.
I also noticed you have FX2 DLC's, so that could influence your decision. We had our tables transferred from FX2 to FX3 for free; Zen ate that cost for all platforms that had that process.
If you don't have Star Wars: Unsung Heroes (Rogue One / Rebels), you're in a much better spot than I thought. If you have Marvel or Zen tables from FX2, chances are some of your transfers are botched and you won't get the Legacy Discount applied for those affected. I, too, am affected, but there are workarounds.
CastleStorm is solo, since WWR is now free, and the Medieval Pack now goes to charity.
Best case, your repurchases as of right now will end up costing around $30 for 51 tables, factoring in current Charity Pack costs (feel free to wait it out), and the use of Zen Collection 1 for the additional discount of CastleStorm. This does not include the 4 Balls of Glory tables or the remaining 7 Zen Studios tables yet. The 3 freebies are negligible.
Not including the Charity Pack, it's a little over $25 for 49 tables, effectively the cost of a single game of pinball per table. I'm using data from the most recent discount periods.
Worst case, add $4 to the total and get the botched packs in Collections. $30-34 for the tables that you already have, currently available in FX.
If you don't want to buy tables in FX that you already have in FX3, then don't.
If the fact that Zen offers new versions of those FX3 tables in FX drives you to uninstall the game, then buh-bye, don't let the door hit your backside on your way out.
It shows witch tables are exclusive to a Pinball FX game like 2, 3, or FX. As well as tables that are available for both. This should help if you are only trying to buy the exclusive tables for FX
Should be noted there are also some tables being sold in legacy packs that you can get for both games. So if you prefer anything about FX3, you can get the tables for both this and FX3 for the same price. I did that with the Indy table for example, because I never owned it in FX3 and found I really enjoyed it upon trying it out in FX. But enjoy the simplicity and familiarity of the FX3 UX, so I figured... why not.
