CUSTOM MECH WARS

The is not EDF with mechs, and the trailers are very misleading.
Custom Mech Wars is inferior to every Earth Defense Force game in the series. It's graphics and animations are poorest quality PS3/Xbox 360 era; destroying a mech or building is as spectacular as popping a balloon and vanishes just as quickly. CMW is very lacking in maps (only encountered 3 maps in 8 hours of gameplay) , dumb as brick enemy varieties, and mission types. The same enemies spawn in different sections, you eliminate 3 or 4 waves. Rinse & repeat.

Let's talk about the big selling point, the endless, crazy mech customization. I'm 15 campaign missions in all rated S on hard mode, and I only earned enough money to create/buy 6 small mech parts. I only get an average of 4 mech parts/weapons per mission. I can't use most of the Ultimate Edition parts; I still have to find them in random drops. Finding a part or weapon doesn't unlock it for future use; you literally have to find more of the same parts or manufacture them. You even have to find the same parts for the right side and left side. No rare weapons are dropping, nor are medium or large mech parts.

So, to summarize, all that wacky customization you were planning on doing is locked behind a mountain of grinding and random drop luck with better gear in higher locked difficulties. 8 hours in, my campaign gameplay is exactly the same as when I started. I've got the same small amount of weapon types to use and an additional mech body in addition to the starting three. The developers should have at least allowed for complete mech customization from the get go (as teased in the trailers) while making weapon upgrades a thing to hunt for.

I'd much rather be playing Earth Defense Force 2017 (released 2006) because it blows the doors off of Custom Mech Wars in every way. Custom Mech Wars is just not fun, and I don't think having access to every single mech part and weapon will save it.

Don't really get how the trailers are misleading, when they just showcase areas you fight in, that you likely haven't been to yet? Does it say "Unlock it instantly?" because THAT would be misleading, but that would be like showing the genocide cannon in EDF and trying to sell the game without telling you, you had to 100% the game (All difficulties.) to unlock it. lol

I didn't buy the game to experience EDF with mechs. I bought the game to design wacky builds and shoot robots. The ONLY reason people are even comparing this game to EDF, is because of D3, which is the publisher of EDF. So why they think sandlot or yukes is making this game, is beyond me.

D3 is not the only reason. There are a lot of gameplay similarities between CMW and EDF in addition to an EDF collab edition of CMW.

I am assuming you own CMW. Can you honestly say it is as good as EDF games, and more importantly worthwhile fun as its own standalone experience?

Well you certainly cannot justify your hate for the game, just like the rest of your bots. So why should someone justify their praise for the game?

Like your entire argument is claiming EDF to be something it never was, never had, and never will be. AKA a useless, misinformed argument.

I provided three detailed paragraphs on why I don't like CMW. You offered nothing but snarky remarks and zero rebutal to my valid criticisms. I doubt you could come up with a proper review praising the many so-called merits of CMW.

72 hour early access for PS5 preorders of CMW:Ultimate Edition.

I was imagining something more like EDFxMecha Knights: Nightmare, and that's what I'm hoping for.

I'm expecting a game where I can have a gun for a wang.

OP hit the nail on the head. Cool idea but boring gameplay...

Oof how did D3 drop the ball so bad? Literally all they had to do was copy what they've been doing with EDF, but make it with mechs. How could they go way backwards in everything?

I would not say every edf game (if you also count spin off games)

I enjoy this way more than i did
iron rain

But again
you could see in the first trailer already this is a mech customization game with some dumb down edf gameplay

Its not a bad game
Its just a oké game (a 6)
Nothing more Nothing less

I am at mission 19 now and i enjoy it
(Playstation) the 45 euro for the base game
is worth the price for me

If this would have been a full price game (60/70 without dlc)

it would be Another story then i would not be happy and say wait for a sale around 40 euro

And yes you need to farm for the mech items the same as you need to farm for your edf weapons and armor

If they gave you everything in advance (this game and edf)

you would rush the missions and then would complain the story is way to short
and you won't replay them Because you already have everything unlocked

and you complain about the graphics, but the edf games don't deserve a beauty prize either

D3 is an infamous shovelware developer and EDF is one of their only good franchises that they made, seemingly by accident. Every subsequent game is just a new set of levels and enemies that are hardly more than reskins of ones from previous games. They ride off the original successful formula and B movie cheese without any innovation. I'm not surprised that this game is not great given their inability to add new things to EDF, since trailers make this look like a reskin of EDF with a tacked-on mech builder.

Cause it pretty much is a lesser older EDF.
Not insect armageddon cause that's Iron rain territory.
And if you wana talk about AI?
Then we talk about Iron Rain.
If ya wana talk about looks?
We talk about EDF 4.1, 5 and so on.

You wana talk about gameplay?
World Brothers.

It combines all of these in to a fun and pretty wacky mech game where the biggest source of fun comes from : How can I make my machine stronger, dumber, faster, weirder etc.

Does it justify the massive price tag?
HELL NAH.

If ya can get it for 20 bucks or less, by all means get it.
It's worth that much.
