Populous vs Godus....... which is more fun ?
To start with I am not flaming this game this is just my opinion.

I have 44 hrs invested Godus and hundreds in Populous and Populous 2 on the Amiga and PC, way back when Populous was a new ground breaking game.

I watch all the video hype and read all the info and thought great a new Populous.
So I purchased Godus, then played it for hours on end trying desperately to love it, but all I've done is worn my fingers and mouse out. I know it's early access but the whole concept of the game is just to slow, boring and time consuming.

The fun bit is missing !

Just to check my memory wasn't playing tricks on me, I loaded up Populous 2 and played a few levels.
I wanted to make sure Populous was as I remembered it, funny, entertaining and most of all FUN. And it was :)

I know the graphic's and sound by today’s standards are low res and fuzzy, but the game play was so much more fun than Godus.
If you have access to Populous try it and see what I mean. It you haven't check it out on Youtube.

It's such a shame.

Please try and make Godus more entertaining like Populous is and it should be a hit, but keep the tedious game play the way it is and I think it will fail IMHO.
I DON'T WANT IT TO FAIL.

By the way I have stopped playing Godus now I've lost interest in it. I may try again in a few months / updates.

How about making an updated version of Populous maybe by tweaking some of the old code and just update the graphic's and sound. :)

It's not even close, Populus is way better.

The good news however is that 22Cans still has enough time to turn Godus into a solid game.

Check out Reprisal it's a spiritual successor to Popolous you might find it fun to play. I agree with you that Godus is tedious and way too oversimplified.

Trick question? Populous of course. IF they steer the other 59% of Godus in that direction it could be a contender.

Populous was way better than this.

They should have just made this game POPULOUS.

Keep it simple. Land lowering and raising in populous was better. Sculpting here is tedious and boring. Clicking on beliefs is awful.


They should have just made it so that belief generates automatically and the power bar grows automatically. Finding this random card crap has too many mechanics problem associated to being denied advancements.

I like the idea of Populous where you beat one level you advance to another level. It's like you're a god and dominating one world and you move on to the next. The Fake multiplayer is just lacking something. plus it ends only in a few levels and that's it.

Totally agreed, the net result of playing Godus was to make me play Populous again for a few hours :-)

I liked the former much better.

Right now? Populous 2 wins. No contest.
It's a finished game and while the amount of clicking is about equal to Godus, it has more depth.

Very little of Godus is actually working, yet, so it's hard to tell what the final verdict will be.

We have to remember the Godus is still in beta. At the moment we're all in seperate worlds, mount of the gods is still short and being tweaked, and there's no real multiplayer matchmaking. Comparing it to Populous at this point you would have to take away all enemy aspects of the game for it to be an equal comparison.

I think Godus eventually, or hopefully depending on design choices, will be better, but I don't think it's there yet.
Just wait and see dudes, the game could still be incredible :)
Or it could be a supped up farmville.
I am hoping incredible :)

You are aware of the fact that there won't be any "enemy aspects" in Godus at all, are you? PM already said that you only would be able to "fight" anyother player if he explicitly allows you to do so, and even then those fights will be instanced, they won't take place on the server neither will they affect his or your territory in any way, shape or form. Godus is basically designed as a single player game with the option to watch other players play, it's like watching let's play without commentary directly in your game client. That's all.

If that is the case then why bother putting us all on one server at all? They might just as give us each our own world and give the game a lobby where you can decide to view another players' world?

I am not criticizing this notion im just wondering.

I have to guess but I think that the reason why we are all on the same server is that they can have Brian (the first God of Gods) interact with all of us and use that as a marketing instrument.
You can search Youtube for the interview with Adam Sessler or the GC video. PM mentions in both of them that every player will be strictly limited to his own 100km² area and only be able to enter another players are if he joins forces with him. He also states that the only way to fight another player is if that player agrees, and if you do so the only negative effect those battle can have on your people is that you might lose the population you send in to fight.

Currently there is really no gameplay related reason why we should play on this huge planet.

Populous. However, Godus is still in beta, so it's a bit unfair to compare it to a finished game.
I think they should make a seperate server for both aggressive and passive players. One where conflict can come at any time, and one as would be in the current version where everyone is restricted to 100km
