shiny stones under the mountain

They are stickers. eventually you'll need them.

In 1.something, shiney stones were the gems you get to be able to unlock certain things.
Followers mined them and they were needed to build more settlements.

Not sure if that's what you mean, or Karsten's referral to chests is what you are talking about?

found them around the mountain near where the hidden shrine/temples are. Definately not chests. They do remind me a little of back in 1.something, except these look like the normal rocks you can destroy, only they are shiny

Are they green? If so, they're granite. You can't destroy them until you unlock a certain card.

no, not the green granite. Figured out what they are, they are a trail to show you where the new hidden treasure temples are.
