extreme difficulty
Any tips for extreme difficulty? My character seems extremely weak and fighting off 3 and more enemies is nearly impossible.

Put your companion in defensive mode and make sure you upgrade your skills. One of the first to upgrade should be your roll because thats your escape when you fail a parry or do other mistakes, and un-upgraded roll is useless.
You need to upgrade your equipment too.
On normal and hard difficulty, using "cheap tricks" like sand throw, guns or grenades is optional, on extreme they are almost a must unless you have really great gamer skills.

Stick-and-move...best advice I can give. Don't try to go toe-to-toe with anyone or anything. Just get a lick or two in and get the hell out. Rolling is your friend.

I finished today on Extreme Difficulty.

By the time you get to the Cistern in Chapter 1, you should have enough points in your stealth skills that you can knock out enemies with a single blow. It takes over 16 points to get there, but it makes those mole caves, much easier. Instead of fighting a pack of six of those critters at once, you can knock most (if not all) of them out before the fight even begins. At the very least, you can take out the biggest mole and then deal with the minions in the fight if you are detected. You can use stealth similarly throughout the rest of the game to make situations a lot easier for yourself.

Humans are way easier to fight in comparison because they have weaknesses. I found that temporarily blinding them whenever possible was good, because after splitting the group with your companion and blinding one more, you should find yourself only fighting one or two at a time, which is very manageable. Even Technomancers will fall for the old sand trick if they aren't wearing a mask, so don't underestimate it's usefullness. Divide, throw sand, and conquer.

Wounding was also a huge part of my strategy against humans, and there are some great skills to make it even more effective. Wounded or blind enemies can't block your attacks, so you can beat on them until they are dead. I always used melee weapons with a 10% chance of wounding just for this reason, because the slightly lower base damage was worth the tradeoff in crippling an enemy and temporarily knocking them out of the fight.

I rarely used my supplies, but a well timed grenade to knock enemies down followed by some sand thrown in the unmasked faces is a good combination when outnumbered. On the last quest, I had a huge surplus of bombs and crafting supplies which made it fairly trivial, so I probably could have used them more often. After all, I collected things for hours for no reason when I could have been throwing grenades or shooting nails more frequently.

I also never learned the parry techniques for projectiles or electricity because I used the combat roll instead of direct counter attacks most of the time anyway, but it probably would've made things easier. I ignored the Technomancer skill tree except for the health bonus and just bashed everything to death while rolling around, throwing in random nails when fitting, and only using supplies when I was heavily outgunned in scripted situations that were unavoidable.

Still, the combat is brutal and being conservative with my supplies caused me plenty of restarts. I had 1,000 serum in Chapter 3 because instead of using health potions regularly, I tried to finish every fight without healing at all.

It's not that easy to navigate in the crowd of enemies with target lock on. And the companion is totally useless except for being a very temporary enemy bait, sometimes he even gets stuck someplace and isn't fighting or baiting at all.
I'm just in the slums trying to get to some papers forger or some such and there's only this way through like 8 bandits and I can't sneak around because they see me. It's like the largest group I've encountered in the game so far.
I have sneaking and some wounding which helps if the crowd is not that big. I just can't get to the wounded guy because all his homies swarm around him.
This difficulty seems a bit unbalanced.

You're right about target lock, it's pretty stupid and your camera swings around wildly to the point of confusion. I avoided it completely and just used my mouse to look around and aim at enemies without a lock, and it works better in my opinion. Unless you are using a controller (which are slow to turn), I would avoid the target lock system completely.

Wounded, blind, or ranged enemies will always hang back and be slower to chase you, so you if you can loop the faster ones around the map you can isolate one of those and get some damage in before leaving and looping again. The AI is pretty dumb and will just chase you instead of helping each other, so you can use it to your advantage. But this also means that sometimes a fight will take five minutes as you run them around the map and get damage where you can.

I recall two sections in the Slums with around 8 bandits. The first one is square and has lots of small houses around it. If you have the full stealth speed, and the ability to knock out enemies using R in a single blow, you can knock everyone out without even fighting once you know the patrol pattern. In the other section, it's circular with a large rock in the middle. At best I could only ever knock one enemy out before being detected because of how the guards where positioned, but that was always one enemy out of the battle before it even started. And using the sand system so heavily, I always tried to knock somebody out wearing goggles when possible.

If you have any other side quests to do before this mission, you may want to do them and level up your character more. If you skipped too many quests in the first chapter or you spent your points on different skills, you may find yourself in a situation where your character is underpowered and it will make you work harder than you need to. But I also played through the game first on Difficult before playing Extreme, so I was a lot more comfortable with the game mechanics going in.

I wouldn't say the difficulty is unbalanced, after all it is "Extreme" difficulty. This game just expects you to do more with less hand holding, and absolutely punishes you for making any mistake.

So I finally finished the game. It got a lot easier once I started focusing primarily on wounding and criticals and when I got enough money and junk to sell to get a lot of nailgun ammo. With wounding and criticals on like any occasion possible it suddenly became quite playable :D
Even the end fight with 2 technomancers and like 5 other dudes wasn't that hard as the technomancers were quite vulnerable to nailgun fire and couldn't do anything.
When I got technomancing glove I thought of putting my points there since it supposedly has some area blasts and such but when I realized that a wounded opponent = pretty much dead opponent I started putting points into everything that had something to do with criticals and wounding and nothing to technomancy tree because it just wasn't necessary and it would probably make the fights worse on this difficulty setting.
Packs of moles were still hard though.

Did they make the game harder? I beat this once when it was first released on Hard and I have an old extreme save in chapter 2 but that was long ago and I wanted to start over. Now I can't even get past the moles in cistern or fight more then 4 humans at once. I barely do any damage with this mole bone +20 attack. I mean, I can run around in circles but that is ridiculous because fights will last 45 minutes. Is there any way to do this without a stealth build?

Its not harder, i got the same feeling as you when i replayed a while ago but it was just me being rusty and taking for granted that i knew the combat. Have to allow yourself some time to "get back into it".

Apparently I beat Extreme before because I have the mutant achievement. The Cistern is seriously impossible without stealth or double roll. I had to restart. But now I'm in shadowlair and the game is easy because I'm full technomancer tree. But I like that though since my struggle has purpose.

ANY TIPS FOR THE FIGHT IN THE SHADOWLAIR THE FIGHT AGAINST LIKE 7 GUARDS I CANT BEAT THIS SO I LEFT THE GAME AND NOW I WANT TO TRY IT AGAIN BUT I CANT BEATH THEM :/ ITS LIKE I START THE FIGHT I GET SHOT BY THE RANGWE GUYS THEN MAYBE GET HIT AND SHOT AGAIN AND IM DEAD B4 I CAN EVEN KILL ANY GUARDS

Is shadowlair the place where the game ends? I don't really remember the names now. What you need to do is rolling like crazy and occasionally shoot some annoying dudes, like the technomancers, with your nailgun. Rolling, backstabbing and bleeding is your best freind on the highest difficulty setting. And by rolling like crazy I mean actually only stop rolling when you're about to attack someone from behind :D

no second level of the game just after u get out of the camp then find that jail bait kids parents house all knocked down and like 7 guards show up im thinking about going back on hard focusing on combat tree then stealth tbh its probs just me im not good unless its shooting i dont think rpgs get on with me :/ (unless its a FF game) tbh i tryed getting into the witcher as i was told it was awsome. i played a bit through nnumber 1 fort combat felt clunky but i digress

that is a hard fight even if you go full stealth from the beginning. You can try laying a couple traps around before you get attacked and then just let them chase you so you can lure them in lol :D
On the extreme difficulty the stealth tree is a must because of higher damage on attacks from behind and the wounding attacks that slow enemies down so they don't hassle you that much and are easier to kill.

I actually did lay some traps beforehand, it helped a bit, and then I was just rollin' all over the place trying to get a backstab :D

haha i only got 4 nail gun ammo and 4 potion things haha other wise i would of layed traps XD

then you need to get rid of the shooter dudes first and quickly, with nailgun and some quick smashes. Then you just need to let the rest chase you around and try to manage a few backstabs here and there. That's about the only thing you can do at this point :D. No big fighting, just evade and attack only when you're sure that you can get away with it.
