PROBLEM: Failed to create the Direct 3D rendering device i.e., SILK ENGINE.

Just bought a special offer package of games, of which only half of the games are playable. HELP! Most of the games like Mars:War Logs, Bound By Flame and Faery WON'T even load. I immediately get the "Failed to create the Direct 3D rendering device" window. Does anyone know how to fix this situation? Or should I request a REFUND?

Try to update your graphics and/or other necessary windows, etc updates.

Can also try to reinstall the redistribute files in the .....\steamapps\common\Mars War Logs\_CommonRedist\directx\june2010 folder.There is 2 folders, open the DX one and look for the DXSETUP app. Sometimes a failed file can cause this.

Yesterday, it was all good, and today i can't play !
I did all update and run dxsetup but nothing better.

I was never able to play the game I had this problem with and I uninstalled it. Sorry I can't be of more help. Read what the other people suggested here and also look for answers on google. Surely there are other people who have had this problem.

I fixed this error by installing an old version (9.12.0613) of PhysX (uninstalled the new one first). Rebooted my system an it worked. I hope this will help you, too.

I fixed it by starting the game in windowed mode. (When you reach the main menu it will switch to fullscreen anyway.)
Go to your documents -> Mars - War Logs folder. Then open graphicconfig.txt and change "Windowed" from "0" to "1".

Like Epic Fail X said setting to windowed works.
Amazing how they let this stay as is for this long

I have the same problem. What works for me: C:\Users\myname\Documents\Mars - War Logs
I delete all files which are not save files there. Voilà! However, in my case, I have to repeat it every time I am about to launch the game, otherwise I see this error.
