The game is too dark to see anything
The game starts up just fine, but when I actually get into the house, I can't see a thing. Everything is so dark. I managed to find a lamp, and when I turned it on the bulb lit up but it cast no actual light.

I have Intel HD Graphics 4000, 8 Gigs of Ram, I meet all the other minimum requirements, so what's cauing this? I already tried updating my card, revalidating the files, and restarting my computer. :(

There seems to be a problem with the Intel HD series :/ until they patch it, I guess we'll just have to wait.

Oh well :/

I had the same problem as well; although, I did manage to stumble my way through the entire game. It really came off as a poorly lit house with extremely dim lightbulbs.

Did you try adjusting the brightness setting in game? I found that it was by default set really dark but increasing the brightness helped a lot.

The problem is less with the brightness level and more with the lights not emitting light. I imagine that the areas are supposed to be quite dark when the lights are off, but there was no change when the lights were turned on--other than the bulb itself lighting up.

Hi everyone,

If you're experiencing this problem, one player has managed to fix it by updating his graphics card drivers. Please let me know if that works for you.

Thanks!

I have the Razer Blade 14 and had the same problem and updated to the latest Nvidia 765m drivers and... still the same problem. Can't see anything.

My laptop is brand new and I have Intel HD 4600 (I mean, I also have an Nvidia card, but...) and I'm also having this issue. My drivers are already completely updated.

I am having same problem. Too dark to see anything. Both game and computer brightness settings are maximum, but rooms still too dark. On Microsoft Surface Pro 2.
Turn up the brightness setting in the game. Worked for me.

adding "-force-opengl" will fix your problem for anyone who's having this issue. It forces the game to render using OpenGL instead of DirectX (as you might've guessed) and it fixed the problem for me.

Thank you! That fixed my problem! I've been waiting for the devs to release a patch, but now I guess I don't have to.
