This is my point exactly. The way you have to play higher levels as a throwable driller is to clump them up, keep a close proximity, and rely on explosive blasts to clear them out. This often takes a while, and your HP keeps chipping away from stupid s**t like this is just not a fun way to play.
I agree with you though, it's an otherwise cool and okay weapon.
This is really frustrating, as I enjoy the throwable playstyle and kit overall.
Smacks you in the face with alien junk getting you dead.
I tried using them a lot ... problem gets worse as you level up those choppas too. lol
And what OC is that? I've never seen one. The unstable one just adds more axes. They still return.

I did a run and took them to 18+ just to check. Almost died several times when they knocked enemies back at me. Being under 100 HP several times a run is quite rare for me. And even when they're overclocked, the damage they deal is underwhelming.

My bad, confused the OC with the boomerang OC that explodes. The Axe does not have it. But it is still one of the highest weapon in the game, even if it can kill you if you are unlucky.
I have had the axe do 45k DPS on Haz 5 (without any acid weapons or upgrades).
There's an upgrade choice at the end (i think its the last choice) to make your Axes Explode, they do not return when that is chosen.
The unstable overclock for Impact Axes is 100% more axes. The explosion one is for the Stun Sweeper. It has two different unstable overclocks while the Axe has only one. You sure you're not mixing up the weapons? Because I've never seen it on the Impact Axe and the wiki doesn't list it either.
edit: I dont have time now, i just spent my time getting that dodge achievo.
But I'll go back and do the Axe again tonight and screenshot the choice when I do get it eventualy.
Like i did, I did not see it until my 3rd try running it. So maybe its random?
likely will be the last weapon upgrade to 18 i need in the game. I would be fine with it being removed. Just make the thing explode instead of returning.
