Plasma: Warthog & sentry can be converted to plasma. Breechcutter, plasma grenade and Shard Diffractor.
I think the mechanic is pretty straightforward: OCs that convert your damage type state so in their description alongside an elemental tag, OCs that don't convert simply mention the effect they give without an elemental tag.
in that case I'd expect the game to indicate if an initial weapon choice can lead to fulfilling the task of equipping a required set, otherwise it's extremely frustrating to discover on the level 2 or 3 that you started a dive with a wrong dwarf in the first place.
