You can still kill it with any perk but you'll be more likely to take damage because it can be fairly fast at times. I can give suggestions for specific perks also if you'd like.
I got lucky enough to get to level 15 on endless without bumping into Abomination so I got the seasonal item and beat Endless Plunder but I do die a lot trying to beat Abomination using Commando. Also, does shooting stop your sprinting? When you mean run back are you talking about "s + mouse1" or "shift + s + mouse 1"? (Assuming were using default key bindings)
Recommendation: Buy a RPG and drop it on the ground for boss wave.
If you need it use it. If you don't need it sell it after the wave ends.
So the answer is no.
501 for healing yourself. m16 for the armor of abomation.
The best thing if you use m16 nades at the armor is: you will also kill many spawns with this.
General hints are:
• always try to get as much distance between you and abomination
• use edges to interrupt/block his suck attack.
• dont fight tooo argressive... always try to stick above 90 hp in singleplayer hoe commando and run if you are below.
Commando is not the easiest perk against bosses in general and the abomination is a bit of a bullet sponge.
As an aside - if you find yourself fighting Abomination on a very high endless mode level shoot at his feet. It takes obscene firepower to damage his armour when you are getting up into three figures but if you hit his unarmed areas he is manageable.
Yeah, the toxic fatman's feet/lower shins never have armor and always take reliable bullet damage (not flame/poison). This is viable when you're both on even ground, otherwise Abom's feet sorta' clip into uneven ground which obscures feet collision.
Here's a fun tip for groups: The Firebug can keep Abom perpetually dancing/paralyzed by laying down ground flames *just* in front of him, not on him. He staggers and backs away from the ground fire effect as his pathing AI has trouble coping with it.
If you master slow and steady flame pumps (not long streams of fire) to keep the ground in front of him laced with fresh ground fire, it's possible to keep him paralyzed in a stagger loop basically. When he goes into a full headfirst charge he will only stagger to ground fire about half the time, so beware that and keep your distance (layer the ground flames in a predictable mass as you back away during his charge speed so he runs towards flame clusters and he'll often stop to stagger), but otherwise you can literally keep him in the same 50 x 50 location paralyzed in ground fire staggers once you understand the correct distance/pump timing.
I say do this in groups, because the majority of direct flame attacks on Abom are absolutely crap, so obviously this 'ground flames in front of him to stagger' technique won't give you enough time when you're alone to swap weapons for damage while twinkle toes is staggering backwards from your ground fire. Oh, the ground fire pathing paralysis has the nice side effect of popping most of his slimers in the process as well. As mentioned, learn the proper distance for that fire - just ahead of him - and how to pump-pump the ground flames, and you'll quickly see the pattern unfold.
not to mention, the Firebug's weapons (particularly the Flamethrower and Microwave Gun) will sometimes make him glitch and fly right off the map for an insta-kill
