There's crossplay betwween PC users (steam & epic games). Console crossplay will not be added.

I recall Tripwire mentioning that the console versions of the game were "balanced" differently than PC. Though I wonder if the game would be just as enjoyable on PC if it deferred to console balancing.

Makes you wonder if long term, cross-platform play might have been a game changer for KF2's popularity. Certainly helped some of the multiplayer heavy-hitters out there, and some of them added mouse & keyboard support to the console versions to tighten the gap (although most have optional pure controller or pure K&M servers).

The console and PC clients for KF2 are in sync at a high level, for seasonal updates, DLC additions, core balance, etc., but you can see they receive slightly different fixes and tweaks.

So they aren't synchronized towards cross-play. Plus, some UI elements, browser treatment, FoV, probably several other minor interactive and tech things (been a while since I tried the PS4 Pro version) aren't 1:1 match and wouldn't support proper cross-play.

I think for something like KF2, the "balanced differently" statement could be an off-hand metnion of the console versions of the game having fewer zeds than the PC version but have jacked up the health of mediums and larges to compensate.

I dunno how people on PC would feel about husks, scrakes, and fleshpounds having noticably more health than they're used to just cuz the console versions need to keep running at 60fps. I guess in a cross-platform server, console spectator mode could run at 30fps if a wave they're spectating is balanced around PC build but as soon as they spawn in, the game will start using the console balancing sheets.

+1 for crossplay (between 2 pc clients was simply called multiplayer in the past, but we live in different times nowdays) add xbox and switch to the full pool. and don't forget the crossprogression system to implement with it, for Free of course :bigjohn:
i mean it's not like tripwire hasn't done some special circumstance programming before. I can see them setting up something to detect if the zed is targeting a controller or a mouse a keyboard player.

For example zeds are more likely to ignore AFK players. Curious to know how many people noticed that.
