Server cannot download any maps from steam workshop
Hello,

As the title states my server cannot download any maps (despite doing all the typical "fixes" and work-arounds out there). Prior to the beta update for halloween however long ago, the server worked fine without any additions to the ini (such as the adding of download host steamworkshop, etc) but as soon as that patch was added to my server everything went to hell.

Now presumably this wasn't due to the update, it was due to the addition of that awful webadmin "easier" solution to add maps to the server, as no patch has solved the issue (even their removal of the webadmin tool did nothing to fix it). I have tried literally everything, FULL uninstall of steamcmd as well as all server files and reinstalling both, clearing steam download cache, changing steam download regions, disabling all programs which touch internet besides steam and the server, using a vpn, using a proxy, EVERYTHING.

I also tested with a friend having him install the custom server and then giving him all my old ini files which used to work (and currently do not) and they worked fine on his computer, which has the same version of windows running and the same update (so that ruled out some awful windows update breaking things).

I am at my wits end here, nothing works and I want to play but only on my server, with my chosen maps and password with 60 tick and all the other nice things i added, but sadly months have passed and nothing is being address, even tried working with a guy on reddit who is experiencing the same issue and neither of us made any progress.

The only hint i DO have is from packet traces my friend and i did, he reviewed and found i was connecting to a different steam server to download workshop items than he was and my server returned null pointers (aka dead ends) while his connected fully and downloaded the maps.

Errors are as follows:

[0037.81] NetComeGo: Checking item 770595119 for updates.
[0037.81] NetComeGo: Item state is 0.
[0037.81] NetComeGo: Downloading item 770595119.
[0038.21] Warning: Warning, Workshop: Unable to download workshop item 770595119

Followed by:

[0100.79] NetComeGo: Checking item 770595119 for updates.
[0100.79] NetComeGo: Item state is 8.
[0100.79] NetComeGo: Downloading item 770595119.
[0100.99] Warning: Warning, Workshop: Unable to download workshop item 770595119

The solution to this problem atm (since TWI refuses to even acknowledge it) is as bad as the problem.

In order to make the workshop feature function on a dedicated server, the server must also have the steam client installed, running and logged in before you start the KF2 server. This then allows the server to download and update from the workshop. Also it adds this nice feature of causing the most horrific lag spikes during gameplay and possible memory leakage on some OSes.

So, no workshop or laggy server with the possability of crashing due to out of memory error.

I would also point out the if you are renting a server from a game hosting provider, you are boned and have to use http redirect instead of the workshop.
Thank you for the reply Zod, I tried using the redirect even though I am using a locally hosted dedicated server but I couldn't get it to function. Could you let me know what settings you're using for this as well as how you went about installing steam/logging in with the dedicated server? Didn't even know that was possible to be honest.

Thanks again.
You have to install the steam client on the server if it isn't already, then just login to it with any account (I use a dummy account for this for testing maps).

The redirect only works on port 80 (this is so stupid I want to choke someone out over it), which is blocked by most if not all consumer ISPs because screw people who self host /s. So your redirect can't be hosted on your network, it must point to a webhosting provider or co-location/whatever.

You have to make sure the following lines are in the PCServer-KFEngine.ini

Trailing slash required.

You also need to make sure the following is true:
[IpDrv.TcpNetDriver] AllowDownloads=True DownloadManagers=IpDrv.HTTPDownload
Tried everything, nothing works, presumably these solutions work for non locally hosted but for locally hosted i guess im just boned until TWI decides to fix their mess.
