Do you have other mouse?
If not.
Can you borrow from someone?
and does it only happen with killing floor 2?
have you tried other unreal engine 3 games?
Open window, take Roccat TYON mouse and throw it as far as you can.
Then get some proper mouse :D
Ok just kidding :)
But seriously what you need to do is unplug this piece of #$@%#$ and plug in other mouse.
In my case I also own NYTH it also gave me problems. Not like TYON did but both must have some faulty firmware. Roccat support did not reply to my tickets about this issue!!!
I recommend sending it back on warranty and ask for refund!
I bought Logitech mouse and I never ever have same issue of performance degradation!
I played for many hours already. Sessions even longer than 3 hours and game is fluent!!!
Try fast test with TYON mouse.
Play untill you get performance issues and then just unplug and replug TYON. If you will regain perfect FPS then you have answear that TYON is the reason of performance issues in UE3 based games. Not all UE3 games act like this. For example UT3 played fluent for me. Borderlands 1 and 2 also gave no issues. But playing XCOM and recent XCOM 2 I also had stuttering and sound glitches. After unplugging TYON/NYTH game returned to fluent state!
Weird s***t but ROCCAT made some bad programming in their firmware! It is possible that some other mouse manufacturers did such fail. I doubt it but just try changing mouse!
I am planning to return TYON and maybe even NYTH on warranty. If I will get same issues then I will try to ask for refund.
ROCCAT just F**** UP!!! They dont even try to reply to my ticket that I posted on their support page!
Have you tried turning off hyperthreading in the BIOS? Unreal seems to do better with all real hardware cores and not virtual cores. You CPU has 4 cores but hyperthreading tells apps there are 8.
BTW, when a new update goes out, support is always backlogged, but they always get to everyone as quickly as they can. Opening/editing your ticket, once it goes in, drops it lower in the list. Just submit and they will get to you. They are best at account problems, like missing inventory, crates and so on. We regular Community people pass through this forum 3-8 times per day, watching new posts especially, and we will try to get you running if there are tech problems. A mouse problem does make sense, we've seen several "smart" mouse and especially LED mouse crashes.
That was my old rig. Now I have i7 8700K
Also whole new PC components.
My problem was in ROCCAT mouse. I tested it many times as I already described and it was 100% mouse issue.
WEIRD BUT TRUE.
Bets test was when I played with TYON. About 17 minutes of playing and game started to stutter and sound glitching like mad!
What I did?
Unplug TYON and replug it and VOILA! No performance and sound issues!!!
MAGIC?
Nope... After playing for another 17 min AGAIN all issues came back!
Unplug and replug TYON just for a second and again fluent gameplay!
Again WEIRD but it was a fact!
Same thing in XCOM 2 that were in free to play weekend.
I tested it because I knew it is also on UE3 and I had issues in XCOM 1
No idea why UE3 engine hates some mouses but there is no other way to explain it.
My solution for those problems was to swap mouse.
First mouse I tested was my very old one that I diged up from one of my drawer. Microsoft sidewinder X5 After that I discovered that ROCCAT mouse was causing all this mess I decided to buy new mouse. I bought Logitech g503 and now I can play without any performance or sound issues for many hours.
Earlier I tried many things like editing game files, changing installation from HDD to SSD. Reinstalling windows and playing on fresh install. Nothing worked!
Then after getting XCOM2 free weekend In this game after I had simillar issues I was p***d but I started to think and my last thought was what if I will change mouse. And it helped!
XCOM2 was starting to lag and after short time sound glitching in combat screen and in base screen and in inventory screen. When I unplugged TYON and plugged in my old mouse I did not notice instant fix but I played with this old mouse and over time XCOM2 regained full FPS because it was dropping to about 50 but seemed like 5!!!! After some time it cured itself and returned to fluent gameplay! WEIRD! But it is true!
But on my last test when I played for about 120 min on Logitech mouse and no issues I decided to plug in TYON and see if game will start to have issues after 17 min as it always did. But after 60 min I had no issues! That was weird! Maybe this issues can kick in if TYON is plygged in before system start?!
Weird but that is what I experienced.
Long have I searched to finally find this thread
I can just confirm what Coϟm1c gAmΣr wrote about his mouse "fix"/problem.
My symptoms were the same:
1. After a longer time of playing the game(~1-1.5h) my framerate started to feel like it's not what is shown and shortly after it started to decrease from that point on. When i kept playing audio stuttering began and eventually the sound stopped playing, including from my other programs like Discord, Spotify etc. After plugging my headset out and back in the game froze and I could only close it with the taskmanager. When I kept playing without the audio the framerate kept decreasing to a point of unplayability. (Killing Floor 2 is the only game where I experience this problem)
2. I ran the taskmanager on my second display to look up what the huge weight on my system was causing. When playing longer the process "system interrupts" was causing a very heavy load and after some tests it started increasing from the point of starting/playing the game up to the moment of the great lags after longer playing, where it was a very large percentage.
I tried many other solutions from other threads like lowering the graphic settings although my pc hardware is fine, changing audio settings in the config because I thought it's caused by the audio stuttering, updating/ reinstalling drivers, and checking for overheating.
When stumbling on this post I read all comments and on page 3 Coϟm1c gAmΣr asked about the branch of someone else's hardware where he replied with a Roccat mouse, Roccat Tyon. This was the moment where I realised a similarity: I had the exact same mouse! When testing with a different, older mouse everything was totally fine without the problems mentioned before, they were just gone. When doing the same thing again with the Tyon, the problem was back. Unplugging and plugging the mouse back in solves the issue and "resets" the process "system interruptions" to normal aswell as the lag to start rising again after 1-1.5 hours of playing as mentioned.
I'm not a big fan of buying a new mouse, so I really hope there is a way for Tripwire to look into this and possibly find a fix. I hope my description of the problem was a bit more detailed to work with.
Please have mercy with my english :-).
(but pretty annoying)
Cool that you confirmed my issue with Roccat mouse. So no matter what software or hardware player have when especially TYON is plugged in then weird mayhem starts.
This is not fault of Tripwire or Firaxis that they use Unreal Engine 3 because UE3 have something that conflicts with this Roccat firmware.
I bet Epic Games will not investigate it because clearly Roccat is the issue creator so if Roccat will not do anything about it then best way is to fight for refund.
Firaxis XCOM 1 and 2 also suffered from "bad" mouse. In XCOM 2 I had same effect as in KF2
I really liked Tyon features and construction but if I will suffer playing some games then it is not worth it.
Took me long time to figure it out and almost from game release I struggled with similar performance drops and updating drivers or buying whole new PC did not fix this problems. Because Mouse was the problem. Who would knew that simple thing as mouse could produce such issues right?
Games like Borderlands 1 and 2 for me did not get such performance hit but I noticed some FPS micro stuttering after longer sessions.
I read that people playing Bioshock Infinite (also UE3) also had problems with performance but back then nobody wrote what mouse they used so no confirmation that mouse was the issue.
I personaly dont need to make more tests in other games if I already know 100% that TYON or maybe even other Roccat mouses create problems in UE3 based games.
Worst thing is that Roccat dont answears to tickets in which I described this problem.
Maybe if more people would report this to them then maybe they would do something about it. But what if simple firmware update would not fix this and problem would be in mouse hardware?! Many people would return their products and for this company it would be big financial hit. :)
Just tried unplugging my mouse, starting the game and when in main menu plugging my Tyon back in. After playing for 1.25h I also didn't experience any issues so far and the process "system interruptions" didn't rise as it did before, it didn't at all. That's weird but it's more comfortable than plugging your mouse out and back in every half hour or so.
Someone from Roccat or Epic games could investigate it because we can only speculate.
Most important thing is that we can play without those nerve wrecking issue.
Here's my issue. I have a decent Radeon graphics card (and wish I had Nvidia). I can play most games on medium graphics settings. I used to play this game on medium graphics settings at ~20-25 FPS (not great, but I got used to it). Then one day, I thought I was good enough to go from playing hard difficulty to suicidal difficulty. After ~60 minutes, the game got very laggy, and kept getting worse over time (~10-15 FPS [unplayable]). I tried putting the graphics on low, which helped a bit. Whenever I go back to hard difficulty, it does not have this issue, or at least not until ~4-5 hours of straight gameplay. I have not tried HoE yet.
In conclusion, I assume my computer generates too much heat when trying to handle all of the Zeds that suicidal throws at you and cannot cool down fast enough. TWI, is there any sort of optimization that can be done so that my computer can handle it? I want to play suicidal more often, but my computer just cannot keep up.
I have experienced a similar issue with other games, but only after ~4-6 hours of straight gameplay. Therefore, something *could* be fixed in this game to make it like others.
P.S. - When scopes that have zoom (ACOG) are active, the FPS drops by half. With my issue, it makes using these weapons near impossible. Please optimize this as well. Thanks.
