If I play medic, I only buy reloads until I get AR. I prefer my second weapon to be a commando weapon like SCAR or AK12 or the Zerkmallet.
Rifle plus pistol mean you can pump out darts pretty much constantly, and still leaves enough room for a Pulveriser/Grenade Launcher/Boomstick/dual pistols.
If you're playing medic primarily as a healer (which you may as well, it's the only one that can heal whereas other classes are better at killing) I don't see why you'd use anything else.
Self syringe to give yourself armor by taking out the syringe and pressing middle mouse button.
You dont need shotty to maximize healing....just alternate medAR and Pistol...youll be refilled with healing dart energy by the time you have changed weapons.
I still think that the Medic Syringe needs a headshot multiplier. Would allow it to pop clots while still punishing bodyshots.
Ridiculously fast recharge and 30 syringe use per shot vs the smg's 50 use and recharge about the same rate as the med pistol, less need for weapon switching which we know is a bit slow in this game. AR can also stagger (flinching animation where zed is immobilzed for a about a second) trash up to husks and sirens. You can abuse this and constantly interrupt siren screams and keep them at a distance or interrupt a husk's shot.
SMG can can only do this on the clots crawlers and gorefasts, didn't bother with testing on bloat. Although testing just now it stops being effective on the gorefast as his hp drops.
Let's not forget the superior dmg on the AR, you're practically a mini commando helping him sweep trash more effectively with the AR. Only thing smg has going for it is no spread, in that case, don't full auto with the AR.
Especially on higher difficulties, where timing can really mean life or death for your teammates.
With the AR, you can also sedate scrakes and FPs more easily (medic dart dependent) AND help with EMP scrake decapitations.
There is really no question; if you are playing suicidal/HOE as a medic in a coop game and you dont have the medic AR in mid to latter waves, you are doing it wrong.
