Gunslinger's dual wield: Waste of dosh?
While playing the new class, I noticed that dual wielding gives you no extra ammo compared to single wielding. In fact: you're paying for a new gun with no ammo in it, you're just eating through one gun's worth of ammo.
Looking at its skill tree here[kf-wiki.com], I find that not one single ability rewards dual wielding, you can take advantage of all the benefits whether you're dual wielding or not.
You may argue that it's a trade-off between being able to shoot more at once at the expense of slower reload (assuming you're not skipping reload animation) and less ammo reserve. But is it worth paying double the price just to shoot more? while none of the abilities reward dual wielding at all?
I'd like to read your thoughts on the topic.

Is Dual Wielding a waste of time?

"No", "No" and "No" again.

When you can hold Twin Magnums and obliterate Scrakes in five seconds, that's not a waste of dosh.
You can fire twice as many bullets in the same time, and with Speed Loading the reload time is so short that it's not even worth worrying about. The DPS is insane if you have the right setup.

Honestly? The way it works right now, if anyone plays Gunslinger single pistols only, they're not very intelligent at all. :sfsmug:

It's the same amount of total ammo whether you buy single or dual. The reason I stick with single, again, is because I play in a team oriented group where we have enough dps to take down any zeds. 500 dosh and 750 is enough to give someone else a better weapon at the end of the wave. This is of course mainly HoE where dosh is more scarce.
Solo kiting, there's almost no reason to go single pistol as it will require dualies to take out raging SCs and FPs with other zeds in the way.
The only reason I would get dual pistols as gunslinger is if i'm playing in a pub group. Intelligent or not, everyone has their own playstyle.

Fair enough.

It's more useful when you face Scrakes/Fleshpounds or whenever you hit 15 for that speed-loader. Otherwise stick with one gun meanwhile.

Pointless discussion. There are people who prefer single, others double, hence it's worth having the choice. Everyone suit yourself, end of story.

No, not pointless when there is a hardmode like HoE where every bit of information and theorycrafting can be helpful.

And Sam's closing remark: "I'd like to read your thoughts on the topic." points to the fact that's why he's asking. Point well taken. I eat my words.

(The reason for my not having considered is probably that I'm too hopeless to ever get near HoE)

I was gonna say. Although he's probably never set foot on HOE, so I didn't expect much.

I've set foot. Lost the foot quickly. Left it there since.

Gunslinger does good damage.... until they bring back the sharpshooter perk, and then you are just a weaker commando.

Gunslinger is better than commando on Suicidal and especially on HOE. That is because Gunslinger can bodyshot most trash with a single shot from Deagle or Magnum while Commando has to go for headshots all the time. The headshots are much harder to pull off on HOE with all the dancing trash zeds do on that difficulty.
