I tend to play custom servers with like 20+ people and theres usually atleast 2 running half capacity whenever i get on.

Word of advice though: Get a group of friends if you want to play HoE or just play it solo. For pubs, stick to suicidal, it's close enough (game is easy anyway so if something works on suicidal, it absolutely works on HoE with less mistakes) but the remaining playerbase of it is substantially less toxic and elitist.
Unless you're willing to potentially carry a 6-player game on HoE while dead people whine about you not sticking to a meta and votekicking you when they get bored of you staying alive longer, then sure, go ahead.
You can find a decent HoE lobby every once in a while, don't get me wrong, but they're less common.
