Here is why Objective Mode failed in KF2.
I think I speak for many in the Killing Floor community when I say that we were excited to hear that objective mode was being added into KF2. For those of us who played the mode in KF1, we knew what a fun twist objectives put on the gameplay and how much life they added to maps.

Sadly, what we got was a lifeless and pathetic objective mode that is basically universally hated by the KF2 community. And it comes down to one simple thing: variety of objectives.

Here is an example: KF1-FrightYard has an objective where you unweld shipping crates and look for parts. This objective is exciting for 2 reasons: 1) there is an element of chance to it, and 2) it feels like a plausible objective for the map, because the shipping crates belong there and the narrator ties it in well.

Here is another example: In KF1-Transit you must defend an area, but it's not just that. You must weld defend an area while a temperature gauge rises, plus there is a bonus objective to kill a bunch of zeds.

And then you have Killing Floor 2 objective mode: regardless of what map you are on, you must a) weld an objective, b) escort a drone, c) defend an area and press a button a few times, there are a few more but they are so uninspired and forgettable that I can't be bothered to try to list them. Every map, it is the same. There is no personality, no variance to the objectives. This is not what players asked for. Tripwire wasted their time even thinking about developing this mode if they could not be bothered to put more than 25% effort into it.

I can only hope that Objective Mode is included in KF3 and that some serious time and care is put into it. There are many, many players who had a ton of fun with the good version of this mode in KF1, and we want more!!!

Fun Fact: Killing Floor 2 has twenty-one maps created by Tripwire Interactive and twelve community-created maps that have been made official.

What about the number of maps created by Saber Interactive.

But I agree on the general message, objectives are meh. Last time I played them probably was a year ago.

Agree with ya. Objectives in KF1 were more lovely to do. Just remember escord Mr Lockheart to his Airship and you needed to heal him all the time

I am not going to lie. But I loved it when they finally launched objective mode. A shame that in the end it ended up being a copy and paste of the same process and without any bonus or something special :(

And worst of all, is that they have already left since Christmas 2019 :c

Like objective mode has potential for good story. Like I can imagine a scenario where your team is at some location and the experimental EDAR's get deployed to help you fight zeds , the EDARS have AI the follow players and attack visible zeds (only with ranged attacks) , and maybe you have a bonus objective to actually keep some alive (citing Horzine cost efficiency) . But later in the mission the EDARS get hacked and they turn on you and more are sent against you , maybe even some souped up buffed ones (or heck a Boss EDAR).

Or it'd be interesting to have a scenario that's like Zeds vs EDARS and your team is in the middle of it. In the map both Zeds and EDARS spawn and they're not friendly towards eachother (but will prioritize humans). There's 2 objectives every wave , you can only complete one , and depending which you choose will weaken or strengthen one side . Then depending on the objectives you do in the final waves you fight primarily which ever side is stronger and then a boss representing that side.

Also doesn't help that the drone escort missions are a pain in the butt on anything above hard, because the zeds spawn in extremely quickly and give you almost no time to repair it, even more so in solo.

I was fine with how Objective was when they first added it, since i saw it as a start and hoped that upcoming maps would be a little mroe varied and/or unique in their objectives. Alas, it was not to be.

I was disappointed with the objective mode as well, I wish they put more effort into it... such a wasted potential. The biggest waste of resources and deviation from the KF formula had to be the pvp mode, that was def not why I bought the game and I hated it.

To me it appears they try to cater to a too wide of a playerbase and it just ends up feeling watered down and not living up to it's potential. In the attempt to make everyone happy, no one is

Damn it only took you three minutes to come up with better objectives than Tripwire

They could've easily played Payday 2 and borrowed ideas from it.

Sad that the objective mode is this bland. It's even worse in Solo, although more likely to be completed in that mode than in a public server.

I am an avid achievement hunter in the Killing Floor games and yet I will never get 100% in KF2 because of DieSector and the stupid objective hell on earth maps, which are simultaneously frustrating and boring in single player and virtually impossible in multiplayer due to high ping and low player count.

Honestly when Objective Mode was announced I was hoping they would imitate Mass Effect 3's setup; Randomized objectives with a healthy variety of types that encompass defend-the-spot, disable objectives, transport devices, kill a randomly designated target, defend a randomly designated team mate and more. I'd made posts arguing for the need for this kind of thing to spice up gameplay for ages, since early beta. Unfortunately what we got was underwhelming.

Actually I've wished since beta that KF2 would borrow some more elements of ME3's multiplayer as that game mode was a ridiculously good co-op horde shooter. The inter-team class synergy available through combos, effectiveness of weapon mods/ammo types changing up how weapons could be used, variety of available and significant skill builds for each class, variety of enemy types and abilities.. fact it didn't rely on warping to maintain a facade of difficulty.. It just had a lot of things KF2 could have benefited from incorporating. But meh, I guess this was a bit of a tangent.

Yup, it sucks. I went and did it just to get it out of the way. DieSector was far more easier than the Objectives, which were really time consuming because I had to kite the zeds away from the objective and then run back and do as much as I can before they catch up.

Thank God a perk like Zerker with its health buffs + damage resistance skills exists, along with Hemoclobber for self-healing and EMP nades to buy me a few seconds. Also, HRG Teslalauncher for ez boss wave. I'd imagine it can be done in similar fashion with Medic, but I never tried it.

Personally, I find the multiplayer element of Killing Floor to be a near-must for me - I have never enjoyed solo play (other than a quick game to get familiar with new maps) so it takes a lot for me to fire up a hell on earth solo game where I know I might get husk suicided at some point and have to restart the whole thing. It's funny because I don't actually play this game with my friends...just random lobbies. But I suppose just knowing there are other people who have your back, or whose back you can have just adds so much to the game for me (not to mention all the great people I've met through these games along the way).

Yeah, I know what you mean. Sadly, at least from my experience, there aren't many good players who are willing to join those game modes + maps + difficulties. Those who do join are late-joiners who see a chance to get the achievement since you already did the hard work. Naturally, these people aren't good at the game and will die, leaving you with carrying more weight.

Objective mode wasn't interesting in KF1 nor KF2, the community forced it the same way they forced KF1 weaponry into KF2.

Nobody asked for objective mode besides some silent minority.

You are clearly wrong given the fact that Tripwire surveyed the community and enough people asked for objective mode that they decided to include it.

Also, super weird opinion about objective mode in KF1 - many, many people enjoyed that mode.
