1 player is easiest, 2 & 3 player most difficult to play.
For guides you should check the guides section in the forum like restless dreams wrote above.
For hoe singleplayer you should be lv25 and know the map you want to play, also note that there are max count of active ZEDs is 12. Use these 12 to your advantage. Also note that the teleport feature of ZED don't work for big ones, so while crawler might teleport right behind the next wall to stop your kite, this will never happen with big zeds.
For multiplayer hoe i would say everything you need is common sense, there is no high complexe coop thinking necessary for hoe. The teams who fail do this because they made serious mistakes, like raging multiple big ones with fire, not healing as medic, not defending as zerk, stealing weapons and/or money, all these basic non-coop things.
Just do what's good for the team (what's also good for you), that's everything, including obvious things like: play on a difficult right for your time/skill/experience, play on a server with low enough ping, use a perk that fits to the current team (e.g. no second commando) and so on.
1- Any perk is viable, but some are easier to beat solo, like berserk, combat medic, demo and even the survivalist. Sharpshooter shines in flat maps, but struggles in maps like The Descent, Catacombs and Netherhold, because it's hard to keep up with headshots in those maps (you'll probably be killed by stalkers and crawlers);
2- Know where the best camp spots are in which map and how and when to kite, this will help you survive. Don't do hold your position missions, they're usually in spots where you'll get surrounded and probably killed
3- Any weapon can work, but I recommend going for meta loadouts, give you some examples with no DLCs weapons:
Berserk: Hemoclobber, Bone crusher, Battleaxe, Eviscerator and HRG Teslauncher (for bosses like Matriarch and Abomination)
Commando: M16 M203, Scar, FN FAL, HMTech-401 and 501
Support: Boomstick, M4, AA12, Doomstick
Medic: HMTech-301, 401, 501 and HRG Incision
Demo: Kaboomstick and RPG (the best loadout), Seal Squeal can work too
Firebug: Dragonsbreath, HRG Dragonsblaze, Microwave and Helios Rifle
Gunslinger: Desert Eagles, Magnums .500, AF2011, Winterbite and Disrupter
Sharp: M14, crossbow, FN FAL, Centerfire and Rail Gun (for bosses)
Swat: HRG Nailgun, Kriss and HRG Bastion
Suvivalist: Kaboomstick, HRG Locust, Hemoclobber, Rail Gun and RPG (advice: don't use gunslinger, commando firebug or swat weapons with this perk, it's not worth it)
Some more tips: be careful with husks and EDARS when you're a zerk (they'll be your worst enemy, throw your EMP granade to prevent their attacks and kill them savely), combat medic with the incision can kill any boss without taking a sweat (if you die, you should train a bit more in suicidal), when a fleshpound comes for your guts take off your knife jump and parry it at the same time (it'll launch you away and less likely it'll hit you twice), be careful with zeds spawns behind doors and walls when kitting, and remember, a group of stalkers and crawlers can kill you as faster as a fleshpound, and for last, there are some guides about how to beat HOE that are usefull, you can search for them if you want an indeep analysis.
For multiplayer, follow what Restless said about etiquette and you're good to go.
Multiplayer etiquette is a whole different ballgame. That kinda just comes with time and being kicked out of matches sometimes, but basics would be just don't be annoying with Firebug or Demo class, don't rage the big zeds too quickly, and give people their guns back/share money
Maps like Burning Paris,Nuked,Spillway or Crash to name a few can be easily cleared with any perk on HoE. But for claustrophobic maps like The Descent,Netherhold or Lockdown i usually struggle to survive with precision perks and usually go for Firebug,SWAT or Berserk.
For each boss,i usually change the perk i'm using and use what i feel is best counter against them.
Matriarch and Abomination= Berserk with eviscerator and piranha pistols(use Parry with Matriarch,Resistance with abomination)
Hans Volter and King Fleshpoundr=Demolitionist with RPG and Kaboomstick
Patriarch= Berserk with Piranha pistols and C4
Hopefully this can help you but i encourage finding your own strategies, over time. They might fit your playstyle a lot better.
I use the Pulverizer (x2) and the Medic HMTech-501 Grenade Rifle.
You can kill anything close with the Pulverizer, and shoot and heal yourself with the Grenade rifle.
It's a simple set up. A little patience, and grinding and you can beat almost anything.
It kills any boss (can get Patriarch before he can heal sometimes) - my main issue when I was trying with Firebug was that King FP was impossible (was using Helios + flamethrower). I feel like I get KFP way more often than other bosses.
Holdout maps give me a little more trouble than the rest. I've been doing Objective mode solo like this too (I have yet to try DieSector). Tried the Healthrower for the drone escort waves just now and it sucked big time. I ended up farming on Outpost Objective wave 1 as SWAT (ammo boxes replenish) to get enough to afford the Hemogoblin and HM103 in time for wave 3. (Stayed as SWAT for wave 2 Outpost)
Medic worked between level 20-25 and my SWAT is still level 21.
Co-op is always a mixed bag. My advice is to find at least 3 friends and then give it a try.
