server filesize
So today mid game I got a notification that I was running out of space on my drive.
This came as a surprise as I thought I had plenty of space the last time I checked. Well, I say plenty... I feel like I had around 40GB free a few days ago.

Now that I looked into what's eating space I noticed that my server is taking up 64GB!
Looks like the custom maps on the server are both in
Binaries\Win64\steamapps\workshop\content\232090
as well as in
KFGame\Cache

Now if I have to, I can make space for it, but I feel like my drive filled up extremely suddenly... It doesn't seem right that the maps are in two different locations either.

Thoughts?

UPDATE:
If anyone is interested where this went, here's my journey to acceptance lol

Yeah the KF2 server doesn't use the clients assets so it needs to download most of the games assets again and if you want workshop items and play on the same machine you will duplicate them which eats a lot of space very fast.

As a result you end up with the game (in my case being 80+GB) and then if I wanted a server with all the same workshop maps I should expect it to be close to 80gb as well.

It's pretty dumb...

Yeah well that's kinda dumb too, but what I meant is that the maps are in 2 locations just for the server.
i.e.
Binaries\Win64\steamapps\workshop\content\232090
and
KFGame\Cache
are both the server's folders and both contain the maps.

The normal installation has its own location which would be third if we count the server locations.

Unless that is what you meant, in which case the system is even more stupid. :)

the first one is curious, usually that is the path to a single map/mod, unless its many versions of the same map, which can happen, you can have many duplicates of the same one AFAIK. are there multiple different maps inside that numbered folder?

They both contain all the maps. :/

U could try to delete the files on the folder and do a symbolic link,

windows will treat as If the files is there and so is the game will Never know, and u will not duplicate files.

Tried this.
Sounded like a good idea in theory, but for whatever reason, the server wouldn't work with it.
At first, I thought maybe there were somethings in the folder I deleted that weren't in the other one after all. The server was saying something about not finding some sort of gore files. (I really should have taken a screenshot :conwayfacepalm:)
But then after I deleted the link and restarted the server, it seems to work. Though it is in the process of downloading all the maps there again.
The weird thing is, the server says the item state for all the maps is 4 (all ok) and then proceeds to download them anyway.

UPDATE: nevermind, there's the "No update available for item" line after all the "Downloading item" lines.
But anyway, the files re-appeared in the second folder after I started the server.

I'm not quite sure why the junction didn't work, but whatever. It's a weird problem, but I can live with a huge server. I made some room.

In any case, can you/someone confirm that it's not happening to you too?
It did cross my mind that maybe TWI has changed the default file location but didn't touch the files in the old location or something?

UPDATE 2:
Well, what the ♥♥♥♥ now? Looks like the server has swelled up even more. It's now 77.7GB with no new maps downloaded.

UPDATE 3:
Great... Looks like the server has been downloading weird duplicates:

Cleaning up now. I can only hope it won't download them again.

UPDATE 4:
OK as I feared, the server just re-downloaded the duplicates.
I'm going to try completely wiping both folders now and letting the server re-populate the folders from scratch. Maybe that will help.

UPDATE 5:
Okay after wiping both folders, on the first launch of the server it downloaded the maps only to the "Binaries\Win64\steamapps\workshop\content\232090" folder. Though it did create the folder structure to the cache folder as well. It just didn't put the actual files there.
Then on the second launch, it got stuck here[i.imgur.com] again for a while. During the time it was "stuck" it copied the maps to the cache folders. Then the server resumed normal operations.
So now the maps are in both locations again.

UPDATE 6:
OK so I decided to just move the server to another drive with more space. ♥♥♥♥ it. It's working fine, so I guess I'll just live with the file size.

Só sad.. I wish it could work, I never tried on kf2 just used it on other games, hope u can find a workaround to not waste that much space.
