The only thing I find fun about prestige is a chance to start over with less abilities as a challenge.
The weapon skins are meb, the prestige sticker who cares? Vault dosh? Uggh.
These are perks that - without exaggerating - would've likely accumulated enough XP to hit 25 dozens of times before Prestige was even added to the game.
So when Prestige did get inserted in KF2, and with absolutely zero gameplay ramifications to pursue, I really couldn't be bothered. Not terribly interested in cosmetics or dressed-up perk icons, and the idea of re-grinding on lower difficulty sounded awfully boring and pointless.
Eventually I did max Prestige a couple perks, mainly due to leveling up a friend new to the game. Without that excuse I probably would have continued not to give a damn.
I do hope if TWI/Saber ever decide to jury-rig another post-25 grind mechanism into KF2 that they DO NOT use the current Prestige as a pre-requisite for this new grind path. Especially if that path does actually award some minor gameplay advantages.
A purely cosmetic grind/stepping stone pre-req needed to access a new advancement system that affects gameplay -- that would be lame. I believe one's game profile/save does track accumulated XP in the background (even if you haven't reset via Prestige), so perhaps a new progress system could use that data as a basis.
Who am I kidding: KF2 will not receive another progression path, nor level cap increase (with tweaked post-HoE 'official' new difficulty), nor new modifiers to earn for perk trees, etc.
KF2 is pretty much in 'maintenance mode' now, with facile seasonal updates using community content, bug fixes, and 'official' DLC items to sell for a trickle of game revenue.
Perhaps best to save any more expansive new game design/balancing/progression systems for a Killing Floor 3, if that's in the cards for Tripwire Interactive.
This. I like to do prestige cuz i really like getting some juicy level xp everytime i play x) Thats mostly the reason i play this game, cuz i can level up a looooot.
This forces me to make new builds to accommodate the lack of damage.
But no, there's no actual game play advantage to be gained.
