Why is matchmaking so terrible in this game?

I've run into literally every problem imaginable with this game's matchmaking, using even default parameters. Sometimes it finds me a game instantly. Sometimes I tell it to search for literally any map and it'll take 10 minutes to bring me to a game with a completely different game mode than I asked for. Sometimes it finds nothing even though I'm asking it to put me in a game mode everyone is playing for an event after jus sitting there searching for an eternity.

Is it usually this horrible? This game is almost 10 years old, I figured basic matchmaking would be at least functional at this point

You would think so, yeah, but this has been a problem since early access.

Matchmaking in KF2 is different from matchmaking in other games.
Most KF2 servers are owned by players while in other games the company owns all the servers.
I dont know the exact cause of the issue but I believe that since most of the servers are player own is a major factor in why TWI can't get matchmaking to work properly.
This is just my assumption.

This is why everyone should just use the server browser. Filter for what you want, no muss no fuss.
