Doomstick deals tremendous burst damage, but using it to it's max potentional requires constant CQC which is risky.
TLDR: all the shotties that were/will be mentioned here are good options, try them out, people have different preferences
HZ12 (unupgraded), T4 DBS (2 upgrades) and a T4 M4 (1 upgrade), this leaves 1 kg spare for either a med pistol or upgrading your M4 again. Also a very well rounded loadout with more ammo for large zeds but it costs more and the DBS requires more finesse than the Doomstick.
Some weapons shouldn't be upgraded like the HZ since it's a trash killing weapon and it doesn't need more damage to kill trash, the DBS doesn't benefit from the T5 (final) upgrade since it doesn't need it to meet any new thresholds.
Other way around mate.
The AA12 has sustained damage (damage over time) the M4 has massive burst and will have a higher DPS (high damage shells with a long reload time in-between those bursts).
That said, most all of Support's weapons are viable in their own spots, for a time.
SG500 upgrades into the M4, and both fill a solid all-rounder roll with tactical shell replacement.
HZ-12 upgrades into the AA12, and both fill a solid output roll with less frequent but longer reloads. Good for crowds and puncture, but your ammo count suffers if you want to take down big zeds.
Boomstick upgrades into the Doomstick, and both have overwhelming penetration and frontload. They are the big killer option, but much less ammo effecient than their cousins when it comes to crowds. They can always make it worth by clearing a crowd with a solid alt-fire though, and its the best feeling.
The offperks are a bit odd. The Trench lacks workable capacity and the DoT is too small without any fire modifiers to really be worth the cost, but it does afford some help against Bloats, Crawlers, and EDARs. The VLAD can function solidly as a pistol replacer for small zed pops and a meat-grinder in a hallway where the nails can bounce, but its not got half the raw power of a fullblooded shotgun when you aren't in a good ricochet situation. Neither are the most solid choice, but they work.
Seeing as Bloats take only 25% damage from shotguns in general, using any shotgun on them is very ammo inefficient. The afterburn on the Trench does massively accellerated damage to EDARs and Bloats as well as CC them, allowing you to ignore them or slip past them while other better suited teammates take them out, or wait for the armor to burst from the heat of successive timed shots as EDARs are vulnerable to shotguns as well as flames. It is an excessively slim usecase however, and not worth the dosh or weight more often than not.
To top it of you can upgrade both weapons to max and carry em. Either can be used for trash OR big games. The only thing missing to become Schwarznegger himself would be to fire both guns at the same time.
naa 1 headshot from most upgraded shotguns = kill.
m4 + boomstick for max damage with perks R,R,R,L,R or all right if less than 3 players
The M4 does way more damage and can fire as fast as you press the trigger.
The Doomstick is risky, but it can be great if you like to play high reward high risk weapons.
