The Kriss is there when i really need to help my team with big zeds (assuming there is no trash nearby). A flashbang + a bunch of bulelts into a Scrake's or Fleshpound's brain makes quick work of them.
The P90 meanwhile is my "general use" weapon. I use it mainly for taking out the majority of zeds during the wave, whether it's trash or medium enemies. I just love it's huge magazine capacity and when you upgrade it, it becomes a beast which makes it even more of a capable backup weapon for the Kriss.
And lastly, while the Medic SMG may be one of the weakest weapons in the game, it's always good to help out your team with keeping them healed, even if you have a medic. Plus, since it's a crossperk weapon you gain all other benefits from the SWAT perk such as increased mag size and damage. I've started buying it instead of the MP5, as it's iron sights don't block your view and it can at least help your team in more ways than just damage.
The P90 has 25.7k base dps, and 32.9k at max upgrade. The Heckler UMP has 27k base dps, 33.5k at max upgrade. The kriss has 39.6k base dps, 45.5k dps at max upgrade. The kriss is overall cheaper at 3000 dosh to purchase and upgrade while the the P90 is 3300 dosh and the UMP is 3400 dosh.
Then you can upgrade it which makes it much better against large zeds on 6p HoE going from T4 to T5 will knock about 5 rounds off both scrake and quarterpound kills and I'll take FP kills down to 60 rounds (dropping 9 rounds to kill) so it should be possible to kill them without a reload.
If you upgrade your kriss you kind of limit yourself to only 1 other upgraded SMG (I don't recommend taking an un-upgraded mp5 and n unupgraded med SMG as your trash clearers).
Out of the mp5, P90 and UMP you want the MP5 because it's the best nowcat T5 really as it has a higher ammo pool, it has cheaper ammo, it has more damage at T5 than the P90 (it's only 2 damage but still it's there) and a higher RoF than the UMP and the P90 plus you can get it at wave 2 and incrementally upgrade it.
That said if you don't upgrade the kriss (and you really don't have too unless your soloing a lane and even then you don't need it) then doing the old build with kriss UMP/p90 and mp5 still works or you can upgrade a gun and drop the mp5 for the medic SMG.
Basically nothing has changed for the SWAT apart from the UMP losing its identity and being a bit worse off as compared to the other SMG's
I'll pull a medic SMG if we really need it but it it becomes counter-intuitive to access via button presses. Am more inclined to switch to Medic myself if it becomes necessary than to be a Swat with a Medic SMG
The first type of SMG is classified by having a small magazine size but a fast reload. SMGs like the MP7 and UMP fall under this classification. These SMGs are what I'd refer to as the "too hot" SMGs: good for very quick and active playstyles, especially for those who like to reload very often and constantly be on the move.
The second type of SMG is classified by having a very large magazine but a slower reload time to compensate. The P90 and MP5 both have larger clip sizes but take awhile to reload, especially if one doesn't empty the magazine first. This is what I'll call the "too cold" SMGs: better for slow and methodical playstyles where you like to take everything down before taking a moment to sit back and reload.
And finally there's the Goldilocks zone "just right" SMGs which are an almost perfect mid point between mag size and reload speed. The Kriss is the main SMG that falls under this category, but I'd put the Medic SMG in this category as well. This is because, while the Med SMG does have a HUGE magazine size, it's low damage effectively cuts one's mag size in half due to requiring twice the ammo to kill anything. That along with it's modestly quick reload speed basically makes the Medic SMG a "Kriss for healers" in my eyes.
If I had to put all of the Medic SMGs on a scale, I'd list it something like this:
RELOAD SPEED
UMP
MP7
Kriss
Med SMG
MP5
P90
CLIP SIZE
Other than the technicals of "hurr durr reload speed and mag size" it really just comes down to personal preference with the feel of the weapons what with the weapon upgrades and all. Personally I always purchase a Medic SMG as my trash clearing weapon, and have started taking the UMP with upgrades as my big Zed weapon since I personally find the UMP satisfying to use.
What i like to do is use the following loadouts as i go through the waves:
all L cept the lvl 25 perk skill go R for unlimted ammo
spawn with armor dual 9mms and an mp7
use up the 9mm ammo and switch to the knife
then sell the dual 9mms and use the mp7 in wave 2
swap out 9mm perk skill and extra armor for R perk skills, keep stumble perk skill till about wave 5
holdout until i have enough for p90
buy ammo for it and hold out till i can lvl it up
avoid getting the kriss until a max'd out p90 is acquired
by wave 5 or when the big zeds start spawning like scrakes, swap out stumble for more ammo
avoid big zeds but stun them with the flashbang and take some pot shots at the big zeds until they either die or regain composure, that's when you run and let your teammates kill it instead
if enough dosh get a kriss and max it out if not stick with the p90
by the wave when fleshpound start spawning, you should have a maxd out p90 and all R except for heavy armor perk skills
during the boss wave if commando get the L lvl 25 perk skill battering ram for extended commando zed times help catch up to the boss and stun them hopefully, works very good on the patriarch
if not stick wtih unlimited ammo and in real time rapid fire perk skill
only time i'd swap out the kriss for a ump is if we have a demo on the team, not sharp, DEMO for the fps. Then i can focus soley on trash and medium zeds, as well as EDARs while leaving the big zeds to the big zed killers
i'd say avoid all the other swat weapons like the mp5, med smg, and mac-10 (was somewhat viable before the update). The way the swat weapon economy is setup, it's not favorable to get a low lvl smg when your mp7 has more than enough stopping power for trash and some medium zeds.
the upgraded kriss is nice, but doesn't beat a 100 mag drum smg when you have a hoarde of trash coming at you. It can still decap a scrake but not a fp. It's the same arguement i use with the SCAR vs M16 debate as well as AK
why get a weapon that has more damage overall, when you can have and upgrade a weapon that is multi-versatile (nades do serious damage to qps and fps and sometimes scs if you land them right). Even with the extra ammo perk you get extra nades too, making it easier on everyone if you help with fps and taking down trash near it then just aiming for 1 zed and hoping you land all the headshots
Personally, I go with Medic SMG and the Kriss, both upgraded as much as possible. Medic SMG ammo is so cheap, and the ammo pool is so large, that it's great for trash, and the unlimited healing at level 25 is clutch. The Kriss is just too powerful to pass on
In the early game, I start with dual 9mms, sell them, upgrade mp7 1 time, buy medic SMG... then if dosh allows I'll either purchase the kriss or sell the mp7 to buy it. Then once I can upgrade, just run with kriss and medic smg
The Kriss is the go-to gun for dealing with anything big or to burst yourself out of an emergency situation.
That now leaves you with the P90/UMP, the MP5 and the HMtech201 (Med SMG).
The P90 and UMP are both great weapons and are really good with general situations. Both of them aren't really marginally better when it comes to getting Upgrades sadly enough.
UMP is for those who like to shoot with precise, high-damage, shots. They can deal with Medium ZEDs alot better and faster than the P90 at the cost of sustainability against high amounts of enemies surrounding you. P90 is the opposite, as in it allows you to deal with alot of enemies at once (especially trash mobs obviously) but will struggle and expend more ammo and time against Medium ZEDs.
MP5 gets alot better with Upgrades though and can strike a midway balance between the UMP and the P90. It has a steadier Burst-fire than the UMP and is on-par or slightly above the P90 in damage when it comes to damage at the same tier while being more sustainable with its larger Magsize.
The Med SMG is the little oddball here. It is compact (3 KG at base tier), has ALOT of reserve ammo and a big clipsize. It doesn't exactly have the highest damage in its category nor does the ROF make it beastly on top of the recoil.
However, it is the only one that can reach T5 alongside another T5 SMG in a loadout.
As for the MP7, I suppose it works too, but it has a small Magsize, less reserve ammo overall and slightly higher damage than the Med SMG.
Now you can pick and choose from here.
I'm still a bit trigger happy with SWAT tho, I tend to waste a lot of ammo on Suic/HOE gorefasts. They seem to have armor that takes a lot to break down. Can an upgraded MP7 or MP5 or P90 1 headshot gorefasts when it's not guarding?
It is usually two shots even when it is not guarded. I suppose it is to keep the UMP as the designated Gorefast/fiend killer due to its innate high-damage per shot (higher than the unupgraded Kriss).
Noneless, I believe you can almost reach the 1-shot headshot threshold at T4-T5 for your mentionned SMG, but it will take a good while and a healthy Dosh account to do that.
Mac10/HM201(depending if I want to off medic or not)
P90
Kriss/UMP(depending on which I'm in the mood for that day)
I'm trying to conserve ammo as I just don't have the dosh to upgrade the Kriss or any other SMG to the full. Quite surprised Kriss is cheapest overall to full upgrade, good to know.
Do u guys stick with SWAT for the bosses on HOE, as I see people switching to Demo usually?
I normally use just the mp7 and m9 pistols for at least the first two waves, and then go straight to buying the kriss. Run around during waves to grab ammo boxes, to save money. Most of your money will go into kriss ammo, but you should be able to upgrade it and have money for a med smg. If you have a support or two on the team, they'll save you a ton of money.
