Blacklist perk levelling maps
Pretty much what the title says.

But let me first make it clear by saying that I don't hate custom maps at all. Some of my favourite maps are custom ones, they're awesome to play on.

What I'm referring to here is what TWI did with maps back in KF1 days, where perk levelling maps were blacklisted (or rather, not whitelisted) and any XP you gained on them would not transfer to the base game. Maps that were whitelisted would be alright.

Why am I suggesting this? Well there's a couple of reasons:

- I enjoy playing Endless mode and there aren't all that many servers that run it with good ping for me. Most of these servers have perk levelling maps or something very close to it in constant rotation and are always voted by the players within them. These maps don't require as much skill as regular and good customs maps and if when those players join in, they're a huge hinderance on the team. Believe me, I've seen this happen many times with supposed high level players.

- Perk levelling maps are just plain WRONG, and take away the whole point of the game. They take away the grind and also don't teach players anything about how to actually play the game. Watching those players come in to regular maps after essentially cheating their way to level 25 is a massive cringe. They don't know anything about the game, the map, the weapons, the perk and the zeds. They run around like chickens with their heads cut off and it leads to a bad experience for those of us that know what we're doing.

To clarify again: I'm not saying I don't like custom maps, but perk levelling maps and those close enough to them need to be blacklisted so players can't actually use them and need to learn the game and earn their levels like the rest of us.

Honestly, as good as your idea, in reality it'd be impossible to enforce it 100% thanks to one simple trick. If the map gets blacklisted, people are just gonna make a new version of the map with a different name or rename the current one, defeating the blacklist.

TLDR, really. You shouldn't need that many words to express something so simple.

See, whoever suggests whitelisting mods is a good idea is, simply put, mentally ill.

Blacklist - sure, but really, nobody got time fo' that. So all in all it's old debacle of:

Nobody gives a flying funk
vs
Ban custom content and kill the game

I think you should already know which one works better and which one TWI prefers

I never said anything about banning custom content though. And you'll notice I said whitelist/blacklist, meaning it could be either. It'd probably be easier just to blacklist the maps that shouldn't be there than to whitelist all of the rest.

But no, I'm not banning custom maps...

this should be marked as the correct answer to the thread.

I have edited the post and removed "whitelisting" to prevent confusion.

I don't find perk leveling maps fun either - sit in a box and blast away doing nothing but people can do what they want. If people gave a ♥♥♥♥ or wanted to get better and actually know the game; Player education, watching videos, reading guides they'd actually do that. But most people will do what they want. Can ya blame em for being lazy ♥♥♥♥♥? But boy am i tired of seeing those maps when i want to try playing the actual game. Would be nice if we had a 'hidelist' instead so we wouldn't have to even bother with those kinds of maps unless we wanted to.

Too late. Many asked for that when the game was heading out of Early Access. They never did, and never will. This is also why I was against them adding Prestige. What is even the point? Other than to make you waste some time refarming levels on these maps. Anyone can do it in a day.

While I agree that super perk training is cheap (even though I have used it before), I'd love to see it removed and keep the game leveling system how it was intended.

However, this would be a very hard thing to regulate since there are so many servers popping up every day and they can add whatever maps they want into their rotations. If you ban a map it'll only be a day before it's back up under a new name. It'll be a never ending battle.

Good idea, but not really easy to remove from the game.

It'd be easier just to make all custom maps have separate exp/leveling progress and then maybe allow customs maps to apply for white listing/joining official progress leveling. It's fairly quick to check maps, you could even make the community themselves do it. I've played tons of custom servers and probably >95% of players use less than 50 custom maps.

prek lvl maps are just fine but it depents how someone uses it IMO
I mean if you start the game use that map to lvl quickly past 20+ and then go online then yes they dont know anything I myself have put in 900+ hrs in KF1 anf KF2 combined so I know the game and I start using those maps after I hit lvl 19 with most perk I was tired of the endless grind and just wanted to enjoy lvl 25 perks

I think black listing would be easier because then TWI could go through and just blacklist all the levelling maps they find.

Anytime i look on the forum for some legit information i see this OP constantly putting his/her 2cents in about every thread like he/she is a developer for the game. We get it, you know everything and have all the solutions for the video game industry. Maybe you can give EA some advice or better yet if you know anything about interior design, i need advice on what color to paint my bathroom.
I don't know, it just seems like this person was bored and wanted to stir the sh*tpot as well. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ you just carried bags of salt to a pool party.

Perk leveling has never not been an issue, but Blacklisting maps was not the answer.

You are right to say that KF1 did the whole white, black, grey listing of maps and mutators specifically just to combat the perk leveling maps.

But you don't tell the whole story.

Every time they blacklisted a map, the creators of said maps would simply re-release the same map's under a new name to by pass the blacklist. TWI could not keep up with the influx of crap that flooded the 'workshop' (or indded the crap that did not make it into the public eye). So you know what they ended up doing.

Blacklisting everything, sure it worked to combat the influx of god awful maps, but it did precisily feck all to stop perk leveling because as it turns out, they'd just use the SAM unlocker instead.

Within a year TWI ended their whole white / black list debarcle, at least with maps. It's still there for all the mutators as far as im aware.

All TWI ever managed to do, was piss of everyone who liked to play custom maps and stopped people from playing them, even making them as well, because as it turns out, most people like to play custom maps simply because they like to play custom maps, not because they want to rank up faster.

It sure as hell wasnt the answer 5 years ago, it sure as hell aint the answer now. It is very much a case of 'cutting of the nose to spite the face'.

It would be easier to just ban the server owner.Or every player that is caught playing it.

The ban will be temporary but it will increase by 1 week for every time you get caught playing/hosting it.

They'd get a lot of backlash from the community. Probably more than every update so far.

you can still perk train in kf1 to this day what are you talking about? all you have to do is download the map and do it offline. they never completely stopped the trend. i doubt theres much they can do now. complaining about an old topic like this is kinda pointless, players will always play the game the way they want to.
