Is the Nail Bomb useful?

Yeah, in sticky situations(like an army of ZEDs running right behind the player).

I throw it into a crowd of trash. Other than that I don't use it. You can stun large Zed's with it, but it's based on luck (or a particular set of skills I'm not aware of)

I've found it's best used when you have a large, diverse crowd of zeds running at you which you don't have the time/ammo to spend on headshotting them all.

Turn around, start sprinting, and throw the nailbomb right at your feet. It'll usually be enough to kill the crawlers, stalkers, and clots.

Also, if you do gamble on trying to stun a fleshpound with them, make sure to use multiple and never try it if they're enraged. (They get massive incap resistances buffs when enraged)

throwing them at a fleshpound is an ok use for them. explosive damage does more to them, might get a stun, and clear some of the trash in the area to let you focus on the bigger issue. I'd throw at least 2 myself.
