Play endless on hard (ideal) until wave 10, kill the boss, suicide, rinse and repeat. Personally, I'd recommend playing on the hardest difficulty you can manage if you want to improve, but if leveling is all you're looking for, endless hard.
If you change your mind on workshop maps, lane maps are brilliant for practice and for XP. KF-Hillside and KF-Corridor are my favorites.
because as mentioned above regarding the "Spillway" map, all you have to do, is pretty much camp on the catwalk and you'll be able to hold your own (tried this strategy on a Suicidal match as the Field Medic, which actually worked).
As for "ZED Landing", there's a cliff-side spot that overlooks the Trader Pod on the beach, where Zeds can only come for you from those 2 sides (which is a perfect spot for Sharpshooters).
"Nuked" is also very good too, just as long as you stay on the outside portion of the map.
Power Core, The Descent, Farmhouse are great for Berserker or Firebug.
But by far the best leveling map I played is "ShootEmUp", a custom map.
