Both in coop and the player numbers show that stronger games don't necessarily find more players.
Have you tried Parrying in KF2 with a knife with the same ping? Success.
This makes KF2 better.
KF2 is more ranged focused and with more of an emphasis on survival and standing your ground with epic slow mo.
I have played both and Personally I prefer KF2 purely because I prefer the guns and ranged engagements and the more survival gameplay instead of the L4D progression style.
But you bet if a WH40K clone of KF2 came out where you are like a single squad of astartes or guardsmen (or even tau) fighting of hordes of orks or Tyranids or w.e. I would be over that in a heartbeat.
Deathwing doesn't count that game had so much potential and they c0cked it up :(
Vermintide 2 recently (yesteday) released their 2.0 patch where they reworked-changed a lot of mechanics the game had, leading to a different playstyle than it used to have. That caused lot of player's anger (a quite big amount) because they believe the game got harder in a bad way where more teamwork and extreme caution is required, which is unlikelly to happen in pub games.
With that said, I don't want to discourage you not buying the game (if that's what you planned) but be informed of what's going on, in Vermi's community. I'm pretty sure you can still have some fun by playing the game.
Cheers.
KF2 uses ranged weapons mostly with an economy system for getting better weapons. Zeds come in waves that increase in difficulty. The map has no progression like L4D or vermintide, it is more like a big sandbox where you have to survive in.
They're very different games in my opinion. I don't think you will be disappointed with either.
Although, there was a new patch for vermintide 2 (patch 2.0) that made the game worse in my opinion. I've played around 570 hours of vermintide 2 just for the devs to change or scrap almost everything for little reason. As a new player, you probably wouldn't notice anything, but I think the game isn't as enjoyable as it used to be. The combat feels much slower and the enemies are very spongy, removing things like breakpoints and grind for good equipment properties. With patch 1.6, it was fast paced and fluent like L4D2 which I enjoyed. The recent reviews for vermintide 2 dropped from a 70% mostly positive to a ~58% mixed rating in 2 days.
