Uninstall KF2 from steam (make sure the backup is untouched).
Rename the backup folder to the original name.
Install from steam, it should rediscover the files and download what's left.
Be careful though, don't want you having to redownload the whole thing all over again.
Pause your steam download and try the following fixes:
First right click on Killing Floor 2 in your Library on the Steam application. Then click on properties, click on the local files tab, and click on Verify the Integrity of Game Files.
Let steam do it's thing, and if it still doesn't work, try this fix:
-Pause your download
-Find your Steam folder, and go to Steam/steamapps/common
-Rename the folder killingfloor2 to killingfloor2.hidden
-Open Steam and uninstall Killing Floor 2
-After it is complete exit steam
-Rename killingfloor2.hidden back to killingfloor2
-Install the game via steam
-It should rediscover the existing files and continue from where it left off.
