Demo can deal easily with any kind of Zed as long as you keep at least medium distance. The downside is that he's no good when fighting at close distance.
Demo is like sharpshooter - you can lay waste on anything in distance, but as soon as it gets close - you need to leg it. Sort of how class is designed - you get great power for killing any zed, but said zed will get easier time cornering you if you're alone.
funny you made this thread, just today i finished a round of suicidal as survivalist and an HoE match as demo solo today. (i would've solo'd suicidal demo but someone joined then left, so i was gonna go survivalist incase they died to outrun most enemies and bosses. I played online but no one showed up till the end then they left.)
This is one of the good times that the seeker six is exceptionally good. If you use all L perk skills, then you can essentially deal enough damage to take down hanz's shield in no time with just 3-4 rockets. You have enough ammo, more than you would ever need really tbh on suicidal, to take on an entire match without even using your second weapon. If you're on HoE, may wanna get another side weapon or off perk weapon incase you run out since there are more zeds in HoE than in Suicidal
The trick is to find a good spot where you can hold. C4 also excels here because it can cover your front incase zeds get too close or too cluttered. If you run and gun you should have no issue if you stop every so often to aim 3 rockets then continue running.
I beat evacuation center solo HoE as a demolitionist using this tactic. The tricky part is learning how to autoaim on the seeker six, which takes some getting used too, and in quick sucession on just 1 target to boot.
If you don't like aiming you can always use the R side and just spam an area, the only problem with that is that the entire R side is dedicated to bigger larger explosions, in which you can get easily caught in.
Starting you wanna save the explosive pistol ammo and just pistol whip zeds in 1 hit as a headshot using the c gun butt melee. Melee zeds with guns but if they get too close, use the regular fire and kill 2-3 zeds in just 1 round.
As you get more and more zeds in each wave, you are gonna want to use the firing pistol and save the melee gun butt action for clots and gorefasts, you can use it to kill gorefiends in 1 round if you get point blank close, or melee them then shoot. For bloats use your pistol to decap them in about 1 mag-1/2 a mag if you land all the shots.
Welding any doors and using c4 is a viable tactic incase you get overruned or about to. You can use the grenade launcher m23, but you'd better stick to the entire R side of the perks to get more AoE damage than direct hit damage. Also avoid shooting too close. As you lvl up you can tank more of your own damage, but until then try to hit about 5 feet (imagine 5 crawlers as 5 feet in a straight line) and the explosion radius will get to you. It'll kill any trash zed, stun any medium zeds, and you'll be good. Also dont forget to switch back the entire L perk skills
Get the seeker six as soon as possible. Once you get the autoaim locked down you're solid.
For the boss, it varies but i also recommend the seeker six, due to autolocking on weak spots, but also autolocking on bosses that move around too much like hanz, and to autolock on the patriarch when cloaked. If king fleshpound use the rpg. If you have enough dosh, which you should if you do well, you can buy both a seeker six and an rpg.
Depending on the bosses, use the seeker six and a side weapon like a CnB for hanz and the patriarch as well as the trashzeds, and use the rpg for the abomination and king fleshpound as well as get a plummeter to tank KFP attacks and if need be QP attacks, otherwise rely on the rpg for the abomination and use a CnB to quickly clear out trash zeds that spawn in front of your path.
Aside from that, the explosive pistol has a certain advantage on other weapons in your arsenal: yes, it's doesn't do as much damage but it will always explode, no matter the distance, a Siren cannot explode it and you cannot hurt yourself with it.
While the Assault Rifle is quite alright, imho all you need is the rpg and the pistol. Then again, I've only cleared Suicidal that way, not HoE.
As for dealing with zeds upclose if they swarm you - I'm tempted to try a Pulverizer build on demo, for solo it should be great as it does knock zeds around quite a bit, plus you now have proper parry.
One thing I still can't figure out is whether the demo dmg bonuses only apply to the explosive heavy attack or all attacks from the pulverizer.
seems to apply to the explosion only as far as i can tell, still it takes only 1 shot more to kill a FP as compared to zeker, 6 to 7.
on topic, demo is a whole lot better for solo now thanks to the perk tree rework, it has plenty of options to deal with close range compared to KF1, it borders on having no weakness, at least not considerable ones.
The go-to loadouts are RPG+m79 and RPG+c4+magnum.
As for M79, it's always my mid-round weapon but as I get more dosh I buy the M16 and then replace the M79 with an RPG. The M16's underbarrel launcher is pretty much identical to the M-79 damage-wise, but has smaller radius which I'm fine with. It's an OK tradeoff for getting a proper automatic weapon to deal with sticky situations and swarming trash
