When should I start to play online?
So, I just started playing yesterday and I don't want to be that one guy who joins and screws everything up, so when should I start? I've been playing solo a bit and I've gotten a perk to level two, but I know that probably isn't enough.

So, should I work on getting a perk to level 5 or just playing more (or just git gud) before starting? Thanks.

No. Just jump into multiplayer ASAP. Solo is nice and all but it does not really prepare you for multiplayer. The Zed numbers are a lot higher and big Zed HP scale with each additional player. Besides, you won't be "that guy" on normal. Only if you join a HoE match with zero experience will you be "that guy."

It really doesn't matter. You should play online when you're feeling comfortable with a perk. Just don't go joining hard or above servers. Besides, online is where the meat of the game is, and where you get the most experience in terms of ''teamwork'', for as far this community can provide that...

Alright, thanks guys. Needless to say, though, I will stick to normal for now

Use the server browser. Join a normal game, if you feel like it's too easy then next time join a hard game. After you reach level ~15 and you feel comfortable go on and join a suicidal server.

Make sure you stay with the other players and communicate with them.

This iteration of Killing Floor /feels/ more forgiving to me, atleast on getting your training wheels, as it were. But, typically, it's best to get into multiplay as quick as possible, but, leveling a perk a level or so won't hurt at all. It takes roughly 5 matches at most to get two perks to two, it seems, and the solo play can be helpful in its own right here or there- but, basically, normal is easy enough to play solo or with 'friends' pretty much out of the gate. By the time you get to level 5, you should be able to more or less solo with no problem on normal, so, i typically reccomend to get one perk to 8, and a couple to 5 before moving to hard (or, just 1 level 5 perk for a slight challenge) but, really, i just played around a ton on normal, on solo, working on off-perking.

But, yea, around level 15, there is no excuse to be on normal servers anymore, move to hard and sui, then, for HoE, i would reccomend having 2 or more 25s (based on kf1 experience, though, it may be sooner since part of the reason for waiting to 5/6 in kf1 was partially for the free starters, which come way earlier in kf 2, as you start with a perk weap at level 0, and quite a few perks add in free armor, or just damage resistance. So, no longer do you need to fully level a medic to 6, just so you can spawn with armor, a med gun, then immediately switch to supp for welds, or whatever your strat would be. >.> on a tangent now, suffice to say, many people have their own way of leveling and playing and 'how you should play', but, do as you will and ask around. Again, KF2 is way more forgiving when it comes to noobs popping into your lobby and such, atleast on norm and hard servers. But, to feel comfortable, i would secure some.. perk perks(? i dont know what you call the things every five levels withing a perk tree >.> i just call perks classes and the level up stuff perks) then play around with that. Like, getting swat or berserk to 5 are pretty viable, as swat can spawn with armor at 5 and avoids clots as does zerk, and at 5, zerk can have 2hp heal per sec, which is great. Med at 5 gets increasing damage resist with damage taken, OR a med dart that heals you when healing teammates. So, toooons of options for sustainability, and tons of fun stuff if you DO chose to play solo (which is fun, but kinda easy given the right perk, and enough running knowledge/skill. Keep in mind, if you have all zeds behind you, only one or two zed types can actually hurt you, without agro, when your in full on knife sprint. Outside of zed teleport, the only things that can catch you are crawlers -dumb, i know- and husk blast. Then, anything charging/aggro'd, so, gorefasts, fp, scrake, etc. But, you can allllways outrun sirens, etc. fun tips. Just running backwards, using the grenade pistol on simple zeds can be a nice meditaton ^.^)

Also, as i tell all my lady friends, sorry so long = /

Agreed on that one. Only played about 10 hours of KF1 and I can tell this is toned down a lot.

Atleast in early game. But, yuh, ^.^ just trying to give solid advice that i would feel comfortable with a friend using. But, again, its not as.. ehhh, unforgiving as the first >.> But! all that said! lol, be sure to get to Hard for new zed types asap, and then Sui for more attack types from zeds and stuff. Normal is just training wheels, but, alot of us have those wheels, of how to kite and 1 v 2 headshots, etc. I have hundreds of hours in kf1 and trained up alot of my recording crew (We used KF1 as a target range, essentially, since the weaponry is pretty nice, and translates over into other games well). So, again, im being real 'egg-carton' with it, but, essentially, just play at your own pace, and dont move up in difficulty until you can securely take out current difficulty and are essentially just farming = / or, thats my advice. Also, solo is a fun training ground, but a different experience, really. It's fun on Outpost to practice kiting outside or just various things, but, when you have teammates splitting the spawns and stuff, it ends up being a slightly different experience.

Also, alot of people are just reccomending whatever because dying isnt really as bad as in KF1. but, its not about how many zeds you kill before dying, its about Completing. Which is why Clots on norm give 8xp, and a patty on norm gives around 1000. So, again, you do want to Complete matches, and i think thats where some people are failing with their info. Also, waiting til 5 is nothing, the XP flow chart goes as follows. The xp to get to level 1 is 3% of xp to 25. xp at level 15 is 23% of xp needed to get to level 25, and(!) when you reach level 20, you are only 50% to 25 as far as actual XP goes. SO. Waiting til five is nothing in the long run, when itll take a lifetime to (legitimately.....) get to 25. (lol, not that people arent getting to level 25 legit, its just uber popular to use the cheat maps now >.> like.. why? lol, unless youre from old KF and want to grandfather in your lvls or something)

You won't be the first, and you won't be the last. Just get your feet wet and only play the difficulties which your class level allows you to. Minimum difficulty is Hard, you can safely ignore Normal.

^^^^^ yes, above all, have fun. Ive found theres a ton of ♥♥♥♥ measuring in the discussion of how easy the game is, yet in game there are tons of level 25s that play on normal and complain about noobs -.- (like, how ya gonna be max tier and ♥♥♥♥♥ at newbs for being new..) so, essentially, ignore all outside of advice and have fun. Also, the wiki is cool for info (i like looking just for nerd purposes more than actually using it to help me) and also the google doc on all the XP, Health, Damage, etc etc.

But, essentially, welcome to the club/floor, and hope to see you around ^.^
