Extrem slow download of Custom maps
Guys you must help me. Whenever i join a server with Custom maps, it takes AGES to download it, while my friends load it in seconds(all with a 16K Internet connection).

Pls tell me you have a fix for that.

I know but some maps cant be found in the workshop. Even if i type the name exactly how the map is named-

I'm having this same problem with a server I set up. I thought I screwed something up, but maybe it's a steam issue...?

EDIT: I also made a topic about this...

I'm almost positive the download speed for downloading items from servers is capped at like 2-3 MB/s. Don't have a source other than personal experience.

Are you playing on servers far away? I've never waited longer than maybe a minute to download a map, but then again I also have fast internet and only play on servers near my location.

For me, I'm having the issue with computers literally in the same room, and connected to the same steam servers.

(In the same room as the computer with the dedicated server on it)

Oh, well thats pretty darn close lol. I would assume its a problem with your specific machine then, sorry I don't have any other advice.

I dunno, man.
I've been troubleshooting it for too long... 😭😭😭.
I'm stumped.

It's way lower than that, more like 200 KB/s

Haha, they still haven't fixed this issue from KF1? It went maybe 5kb/s in KF1.

It's not an "issue", it's done on purpose. Prevents extreme bandwidth usage for redirect servers, game servers, and clients.

So basically you're just boned if you play a server with custom maps that you don't already have?
That seems broken....

I don't really know whats going on with these other people, whenever I have to download a map, even a big ~100MB map, its only takes a couple seconds for me. My download speed in-game is pretty comparable to my download speeds outside the game.

WHY THO :(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(
NEED FIX NAO
Petey1001 Nov 24, 2016 @ 8:23pm
If anyone wants to help me troubleshoot it by just joining my server and telling me what it's doing I might be able to track down the problem.

EDIT: So after troubleshooting a bit....
Using a redirect to sites like skillzserver and such makes the maps load quickly.
However, there are a lot of maps that arent hosted on those sites. Those maps that are JUST on the steam workshop download really slow.
The more and more I look into this, it seems like a steam thing... Which really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sucks because a lot of the cooler maps (dive to the heart, l4d2) arent hosted on skillz.
wish some devs or SOMEONE would pick up on this and do something.....

Like i sad before replace capital letters in name of file you wish to download to a client when thay connect to your server to small letters. Also on your redirect and if that doesn't help also do that in your .ini files... solved.
