You'd be surprised. Sometimes having a "bad sight" can be a balancing feature. Take the AR-15. I rarely see anyone ADS with it because it's clunky and obstructive. Hip fire solves this but hitting far away enemies gets tricky with it. In Battlefield Bad Company 2, the AN-94 and UMP-45, prepatch, were some of the most powerful weapons in the game. A caveat was that they had terrible iron sights, forcing players to exchange extra ammo, faster movement speed, more grenades, etc for the simple convenience of being able to see the enemy clearly.
Anyway, that sound cool but it could throw off weapon balance. But I do want an option to remove the MP7's silencer though. I hate how it sounds like a wet fart
This is actually not the first time I've heard the "the cooler we make stuff, the harder it is to balance everything, so we're going to intentionally make stuff less cool" argument. I'm posting here to point this out so that we as concerned gamers can express our unified displeasure with this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ trend. (And I'm not saying the argument doesn't have its truth to it, but ... still ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.)
That being said:
1) I don't support cosmetic mods (whoops, those are already in! :P)
2) I wouldn't mind some medium-complicated customization options (think "titanfall", not "arma") but I don't actually miss them at this point. (And yes, I can read, and IK TWI are stubborn and will definitely make superhuman efforts to not do stuff they don't want to do. So, to be clear: I'm just stating my blue-sky opinion and not asking in any way, however indirect, for this stuff to be put in the game of "Killing Floor 2: The Lit-Up Sequel".
Yeah ... u didn't know that was the full name of the game, did you?! :P)
I understand the whole "We gotta balance everyting" aspect. But can't you also just balnce the certain attachments? Again, I'm not asking for a super complex attachment system, just a simple one that is mostly a cosmetic change. I just don't see how that would throw off the balance in the long run. If people can already aim without the sights, then I see no reason why not let players who can't really do that customize their sights anyways.
The game has specific recoil and spread modifiers for ADS. Some weapons are balanced by not allowing effective use of those modifiers due to having bad sights. Having the ability to change these sights will effectively buff them by increasing their usable range.
