These servers are trash. Not balanced, no fun. 6 players matches are well balanced and is the way to play. For new players there are plenty of difficulties from normal to suicidal.
might want to check out when they stream live and you will see what I mean
they are a lot of fun.
Let's not pretend that having a lower level or having little to no experience has no effect on the game whatsoever. The real problem here is the attitude of people. There's only backlash against this so called elitism because people aren't being polite about it and just kindly telling newbies that they should get their levels up and practice in lower difficulty games. Newbies are being kicked quickly and (as you see in many games, L4D2 as well, check the forums there) on forums there's some very rude words being thrown out, directed at said newbies.
Consider this. There is a difficulty filter in the server browser. But just like in the last game, KF(2) doesn't instruct new players to use it. While I'm always cautious when playing a game, especially multiplayer, that I am unfamiliar with other players will jump into higher difficulties right away because they're confident they can handle it and/or they like a challenge.
They might not be putting much thought into it and to them jumping into a Hell On Earth server might be just like picking "Very Hard" in a singleplayer game.
While it's not said explicitly, it almost seems like veterans think these people all do it on purpose to make the game harder for others. I submit that it is something they do out of ignorance instead. More than once when I was hosting a higher difficulty level game on KF, newbies joined. They performed badly and didn't enjoy it much, neither did the other players who had to play babysitter as a result of that. I explained to these players that they were better off selecting a server set to a lower difficulty and on more than one occasion, they thanked me and left on their own.
This is getting rather drawn out but bear with me here. Keep in mind said ignorance (not their fault, it's still not considered standard for someone to go through any sort of documentation when playing a new game, people just like to jump right in) and then remember that when somebody joins a KF2 game and spawns in, there's very little time for people to first notice the players level, explain to them what they would be better off doing, run to the trader to buy their equipment and then go back to wherever it is they're holding out. If they can be bothered to be polite about it, chances are the exchange will take longer than the trader break and the new player has already involuntarily added to the amount of zeds the group will have to take down. Inevitably, most of them will die early on or at least be responsible for very little zed killing, and that puts more weight on the team. So instead, veterans choose to do the more effective but less social thing and just kick them out of the server ASAP.
And while there are constantly posts being made about carrying or about these newbies possibly being either KF veterans or players generally smart enough to carry their weight, I have seen very little evidence of this even on Hard. On KF there were newbies joining suicidal and HoE games that clearly did not belong. And the newbies I see here (I'm not even playing suicidal or higher myself on KF2 yet) cannot handle Hard and often even Normal.
Not only that, but to act like perk level is absolutely meaningless is foolish. There may not be weapon discounts based on perk level anymore, but things like increased damage, decreased recoil, ammo count and all those other things do make a difference.
Also, I'm not seeing intelligence in most of them because when you try to tell them something they tend not to listen. You can tell a new player playing support that it'd make more sense for him to use shotguns than a flamethrower or something, but it never seems to get through to them.
Anyway, you could just forget about this entire discussion if TWI simply decided to throw some new player prompts at people who start up the game for the first time, briefly telling them about difficulties, perk levels and so on. Guarantee you that while it wouldn't work for everyone, there WOULD be a slight or decent reduction in players going for challenges they cannot handle. It's just that simple. It could be as little as "Hey guy! Try playing on Normal or Hard before you join a Suicidal or Hell on Earth game!" or something like that. Some people would understand.
Tell me you're not tired of seeing this thread pop up every single time there's a free weekend for literally any multiplayer game where experience or time played plays even the smallest part in how well a player will perform.
Yet i went to spectate a few games and after a couple tries i find a hoe with lvl 0s in.
They are either too ignorant to realise a game would have several difficulties(how can they be). Or they are amazing(less likely).
Or
Some of them just want the better xp and want you to carry them which is taking the piss. Its doable for a little while but i aint great.
Also ive tried mentioning to low levels that hoe isnt the place to start and not many seem to listen.
But whatever at the end of the weekend it should be back to normal.
(One dude didn't even know how to heal himself or others xD)
