PSA: Your perks can reset to 0 at any time and you will lose all progress
Just a heads up because I was unaware of this known issue with NO fix. After 200 hours of progress I joined a HoE server and my perks were reset to 0, any progress made is also lost as they will reset to 0 after each match.

The only fix is to reset my stats to 0 manually and start over. 200 hours of progress lost due to TW server corrupting data and no fault of my own.

Perk information isn't kept client side as it was with KF1 because people could alter there levels easily. TW servers can randomly lose all your data at any point in time as it did mine yesterday. TW will also ignore you as this is a known issue as seen on the KF2 support page.

Was fun playing with you all. :Horzine:

mention of steam support, makes me wonder maybe steamcloud messed up the data and then it was replaced with a clean slate data.
or its also possibly the error was computer side which cleaned the save, which then in return steamcloud would maybe accept the new save.
theorys nothing more, but i was thinking on steam cloud earlier today as if what if someone can mess with the cloud save data.

also id say if you can check the history of servers and find that server someone could run an test to see if its an always reset as chance someone setup an bad server maybe, or just an faulty one.

Hm yea I can check my server history that's true. I keep thinking about that server, they wanted to kick me right away but that was understandable as it showed me as Level 0 in an HoE server lol. Thanks for the suggestion.

I can't say for sure but the first server that pops up in my history is this one which is set to private, I've never joined a passworded KF2 server before so it must have changed.

At the time I joined HoE, the server name says "Normal" and currently playing on Hard so they're changing the difficulty around. Hard to say if it's the same HoE server I last joined or not.

Is this a custom server?

oh my god please help me this just happened to me. No idea what server I was just matchmaking and after the second round in the game everything lagged me out of the server and all my perks were back to 0 :'-(

EDIT: ok...just quit steam and loaded back in, loaded up KF2, all my perks are back. That was scary.

from what its sounding its an glitch at times, and other times maybe another reason.
could be that the problem happens, steam trys to connect to retrive the cloud data, and something happens during that time which leaves an blank slate?
or the game is exited and restarted so quickly steam doesnt have an chance with steamcloud to update the data, or retrive it.
so then when the games started again then exited it takes the glitched data and uploads that to cloud.

Well that's a way to get a fresh start. I wouldn't reset on my own but i'd get to playing right away if that would happen. Haven't played one bit since i got all achievements in this patch anyway.

Haha thanks, that honestly helps. So far it's like I have to defend my position but it's good to know some might feel the same way in my boots.

Of the 4 all ended up resetting manually and losing perk and achievement data to start from scratch. 0 of the 4 have have yet to have it happen a 2nd time.

You are welcome :-)

So this corruption case seems to be pretty rare... that would explain why TWI has not yet adressed it formally and why it is such a "non-issue".
I can imagine that this corruption condition would need a close cooperation between TWI and the technical Steam Support and maybe such an effort is not viable for these very few cases.

Before you give up completely on future games from TWI you could wait for some time after the release and search the forum for corruption cases.
Maybe this issue is KF2 exclusive.
Or maybe this issue is affecting the whole Steam network and hasn't received much publicity because it's widely scattered with only a few cases in every Steam game... what a scary thought :MrFoster:

Manually resetting your perk doesnt make you lose your achievements. I have done it twice.

Have you tried turning it off and on again

:Sadclot: This happens rarely but is indeed possible. This issue has been on our radar but we've never been able to reproduce this in QA department. We have put in a blind fix for the next build as a possible solution related to losing Steam connection while stats are in the process of transfering. Again, since we haven't been able to reproduce it on our end it makes trying to create a fix difficult but hopefully the fix helps. We will keep you updated with any new information we can.

As always, if you guys ever need additional support please fill out a support ticket here http://support.tripwireinteractive.com/User/Login

Did you use either the TRUE or FALSE flag after the resetstats "steamname" command? I'm getting conflicting reports from users, and in 1 steam post even TWI staff have said that it does wipe acheivements as well.

Thank you for the response. Could you confirm for me what the resetstats "steamname" wipes, if that includes achievements and if the TRUE/FALSE flags alters that behavior at all?

There is conflicting reports from all users on what it actually resets. The KF2 support page that instructs people to use it also fails to mention what it does and does not reset.

my achievements did not reset . only the classes

If he has the perk lvl achievements unlocked and all that, isn't that enough proof for him to get some kind of restoration going, or is it simply not possible? Kind of disheartening to know that this could happen with no hope of restoring the perks.

achivements can be easily hacked sadly, so they dont stand as proof much sadly.

If the unlock times are reasonably distant then they should be assumed to be legitimate. If someone is willing to go through that much effort just to skip grinding...

never know never know, achivements some unlock all at once.
some unlock a few, then a few more, over time.
plus giving the idea of using achivements as proof if this was accepted then scammers would be hacking there achivements for chance of an fastpass to max levels.

but yeah there is various people who hack achivements making them worthless.
whenever you find a new release, check the achivements and ull see some already having them all. stinks but happens throwing the achivement stats off global wise.

Wait, can you confirm when it happens to someone? Or are you just going off their reports? Becuase if its the former, surely you can just restore their levels to at least the number (if not the progress within that level) that they were at prior to the stat failure?

^this. I wouldn't play KF if it wasn't for the grind for nearly as much time becuase there is no other end-game (though I would love a prestige system). If people want to cheat their way to 25, I don't see how that puts other players at any 'disadvantage'. It's not like there is some 'competitive edge' to it; its coop... and if its truly a 'rare' problem, so what if you let the 5 players that got screwed over by a glitch get ahead; at least they'd still want to play.
