You can attack and kill whales to farm oil and meat. Especially oil is very valuable.
Yes, that has been reported quite a lot recently. I was trying to track it down, but no success yet. I will increase the bug priority.
At one point I was thinking of adding fishing, since there is already a net in the game. It could then be thrown towards schools of fish.
I understand. Would you have examples of what you find especially confusing or hard to navigate?
I couldn't find anywhere that indicated what the cannons firing sequence was (front to back, back to front an random) or what the net was actually for. For the first, I learned through trial an error; the second. I read on the steam discussions.
In the very beginning, I had no bottom sails. I was unsure if i was traveling at full speed or not. I had to read the steam discussion to learn that this was a cosmetic only setting, and where to turn it off.
About Gold:
I would encourage increasing the amount of gold earned by current mechanics before adding new ones. In my second play-though, I was up to 5 million in just a couple of hours by only trading. Really discourages bounties, port captures, exploration, and selling captured ships. (Perhaps certain goods need to be gated similar to ships)
mainly the reading/dialog options sequences during island quests, the main HUD UI also is little small and not well displayed, despite the tutorial the ship controls are not really well explained, for example the (i dont know how well to explain this so im just gonna explain what the icons look like) white flag, defence and attack icons.
Maybe I should update the pirate-o-pedia.
I need to think more about the tutorialization.
The trade system as a whole needs bit of revising.

True the tutorial do not explain them, since they relate to fleet functioning, but I understand that is confusing.
I need to think of something for that.
