Opening up Rank 2 Units
So I am a bit confused how this opens up. I have created 4 Rank 1 buildings, and I am on my 2nd shard after the turtoial. i am pretty sure rank2 units are supposed to be available. I also just constructed a Fort in my Stronghold which says it gives me space to house rank 2 units. However, when I go to military quarter and go to II - all I see is Practice Halls. How do I get the second rank of Units?

If you playing the campaign it depends which shard you have choosen and what you get to complete it.So if you get no r2 unitbuilding you cant get r2units.

to build and access tier two units you will need workshop carpenters guild any four class houses eg recruiting station and then fort.. that will open up tier two units at teh very least if you dont have access to any of these it wont happen manually...
if you buy inn and tavern you might be able to buy some from these stores but at double the price...
and you will need to level up your hero and get command perk to unlock space in your own hero set...
i doubt you will have acess to all of this in your first 4-5 shards you might tho..

as loom stats when you attack shards and win you unlock access to all the above and more...
im on shard 19 and defeating 4 masters after 200 hrs of gameplay and still dont have everything available to build with about 70% full

so choose you want to build and attack a shard with schematic to use on the next shard

you will need to be patient with this game..
just enjoy the tier one units in the meantime and experment with the differnet combos

but i think at the moment you need to level up hero command to unlock squares and buy them at inn and tavern

ok - one more thing, AI has a tendency to throw rank 2 units at me, while I still only have access to Rank 1 - that about right with everyone else's experience?

There`s ways to get rank 2 units without actually having buildings for ranks 2 units so... nothing out of the ordinary here.

I suppose it depends on what rank 2s it`s using. The AI does have some pretty big advantages at times though.

ok, and one more Q - once my walls and fortifications have been damaged, how do they get repaired?

yes you wall will repair themselfs eventually.. you will always get higher lvl enemies from time to time otherwise it wouldnt be a challege... its more what you wasting rather then what your building that can get you into trouble too eg spending too many rds searching a province instead taking multiple ones

every map is different so some hero's dont match well with some shards warrior is poor against sand because he runs out of stamina try using morale and stamina effect spells agianst trolls and giants stay way from powerfull undead like vampire and ghosts (really need to kill vampire in one or two rd at most and ghost needs high spell/magic using dmg..

side note i pick up a unicorn during one of those written quests maybe becasue i had great karma and space open in my hero 3tier..

just a quick thought - maybe you can build the inn upgrade (dunno which one tbh) in your fort so you can grab tier II mercenary units?

one tier difference is not that big deal really, you can usually counter those units with your hero.

@lazarus i killed vampires and ghosts with scout and light cavalery + knights :))) when you use the charge bonus cavalery units have, ghost usually take +-6-10 damage from the cavalery/knights. without the charge its usually 0... same with vampire, archer can double-shot him in 2 turns :)

nice one janek i just use monks on ghosts and a second level healing spell that does 15 dmg to undead to the vamps thats the beauty of the game at least two different ways of beating them... but you ll need tier 2 units and or spells which seltin dosent have yet...

i never thought about the healing spells, i will have to give it a go :)

honestly i dont think there is a way to deal with more than few ghosts only with t1 units... so i would suggest just to avoid them, if possible, and retreat from such encounter

think its call exorcism from tier 2 not actual heal spell...

oh yes - that one :) well i think magic arrow or any other damage spell (acid, lightning etc) is better, since its more universal and usually even the arrow deals enough damage to kill the ghost...

btw i tried gryphons yesterday, works just like cavalery. that charge bonus is a killer :)
