Campaign Question.
So I've been playing the campaign. gone a number of turns. attacked a number of shards.

is the overall objective of the campaign to destroy the other masters? just the masters I don't like?

amass enough shards to rebuild the world?

just wondering the overall goal. google search suggests there is an overall fail condition for not achieving the goal in time. but the timer isn't listed anywhere in game.

and the goal for beating the game seems to be obscure. just trying to confirm I'm actually moving toward the ending by just randomly attacking shards for energy. or if I need to kill these masters that keep cropping up.

Kill everyone. Sincerly, a necromancer.

actually - when the timer runs out -> you basically win : at least you get an achievement !

at turn 88 or very shortly after (may depend on dificulty) eador gets attacked by chaos and you lose, no matter how many masters you have defeated/how much energy you ve got left; i ve tried this several times.
Now i am trying to assemble that artefact, but damn, it s so annoying grind, because you have to search some ruins on shards and i am quite tired of conquering shards.

So, the games still does not give hints for the artifact parts? I hoped this will be fixed (normally one should get notification at the beginning, telling the name of province where the artifact is hidden: 1) you know the artifact is on said shard, 2) you know which provinde has to be wiped clean...)

the game said it about 2 - 3 times only, so i believe it would tell you, but it s still totally boring grind, because it doesnt name the shard

so when I find the right shard it will tell me the location to search for the piece?

There are a few endings to the campaign.

Surrender
Run out of Time
Lose your home shard
Fail to take any shards before the other masters arrive
Choose to serve Beleth
Destroy all Life for L'anshar
Give Ul-Dagan the parts to the Destroyer
Destroy all other Masters
Enslave everybody with the Destroyer
Use the Destroyer
Assemble the Talisman for Erdu
Find the Keys of Truth

Wow! What should you do to serve Beleth? Or, what is exactly meant by "serve" Beleth?

You can choose to serve beleth in dialogue with him from the astral then after a few turns it leads to the ending. You need to suck up to him for the option to appear from what I remember.

How do I trigger the Keys of truth?

I messed it up before by killing the Necromancers, now I've restarted the campaign and met the old man. But I think I missed the place I was supposed to go to...or I didn't notice it. Nothing's in my journal and I've eaten up a couple shards since then.

Sometimes Shards have difficult opponents...
Anyway, any advice?
Thanks!

The first one is a province called Valley of the Ancients at an abandoned temple, you probably need to explore the province to reveal it. If you didn't get it on the shard you met the old man I don't think you'll ever get a second chance

The guards can sometimes be fairly strong. First I think was guarded either by imps or fiends, 3rd I know had a hydra and the 7th is a lvl25+ dragon so that should give an idea of the range of guards it has as you go through the keys.
A good hero goes a long way in reducing difficulty though.

You can end up beating much stronger guards than you, the key is to clear easier locations which will let you loot powerful scrolls and equipment. You can also acquire high level creatures without buildings (harpy nests, troll lairs, minotaur labyrinth, mercenary guild,...).

yeah theres a forest ring that allows you to recruit rank 1 and 2 fairies and dryads with magic strike which is useful for taking down ghosts.

you get a good hero you get decent units you can take down the bigger stuff, really the rank 3 and 4 units as mentioned you can grap stuff.

the bigger tier artifacts are massive bows and weapons

So we start with 1 hero and cost of additional heros goes up as we go along, later buildings like the treasury or whatever giving you 2% interest on all your banked gold make your income skyrocket so you can buy many heroes, like 8.

I generally build a Scout/Warrior. Warrior/Scout. tactician/Mage Mage/Tactician.

the scout Warrior is heavy armor and uses a bow, whacking things at range and using astral Energy to get a massive first strike against the enemy dropping the greatest threats, with a good bow he can brutalize them, with necromancy arrows he can raise dead targets as skeletons so he can also attack the same turn with the skeletons he gets from kills. its rather effective so long as his gear is in good repair.

the Warrior scout is similiar in equips but not as classy, bit tougher bit less damaging he's respectable. but not as powerful.

the Tactician mage gets a full Army and uses the mage to get some mage spells to buff the army he otherwise would not reach. generally I just use the level 3 mage spell damage all enemies heal all friendlies. its simple it works. if anything is alive after the army cleans up.

and the mage tactician works in a similiar fashion.

but yeah for the tough armies send in a scout/warrior with good equips loaded up on astral energy.
