Now i am trying to assemble that artefact, but damn, it s so annoying grind, because you have to search some ruins on shards and i am quite tired of conquering shards.

Find the Keys of Truth
I messed it up before by killing the Necromancers, now I've restarted the campaign and met the old man. But I think I missed the place I was supposed to go to...or I didn't notice it. Nothing's in my journal and I've eaten up a couple shards since then.
Sometimes Shards have difficult opponents...
Anyway, any advice?
Thanks!
The guards can sometimes be fairly strong. First I think was guarded either by imps or fiends, 3rd I know had a hydra and the 7th is a lvl25+ dragon so that should give an idea of the range of guards it has as you go through the keys.
A good hero goes a long way in reducing difficulty though.
You can end up beating much stronger guards than you, the key is to clear easier locations which will let you loot powerful scrolls and equipment. You can also acquire high level creatures without buildings (harpy nests, troll lairs, minotaur labyrinth, mercenary guild,...).
you get a good hero you get decent units you can take down the bigger stuff, really the rank 3 and 4 units as mentioned you can grap stuff.
the bigger tier artifacts are massive bows and weapons
So we start with 1 hero and cost of additional heros goes up as we go along, later buildings like the treasury or whatever giving you 2% interest on all your banked gold make your income skyrocket so you can buy many heroes, like 8.
I generally build a Scout/Warrior. Warrior/Scout. tactician/Mage Mage/Tactician.
the scout Warrior is heavy armor and uses a bow, whacking things at range and using astral Energy to get a massive first strike against the enemy dropping the greatest threats, with a good bow he can brutalize them, with necromancy arrows he can raise dead targets as skeletons so he can also attack the same turn with the skeletons he gets from kills. its rather effective so long as his gear is in good repair.
the Warrior scout is similiar in equips but not as classy, bit tougher bit less damaging he's respectable. but not as powerful.
the Tactician mage gets a full Army and uses the mage to get some mage spells to buff the army he otherwise would not reach. generally I just use the level 3 mage spell damage all enemies heal all friendlies. its simple it works. if anything is alive after the army cleans up.
and the mage tactician works in a similiar fashion.
but yeah for the tough armies send in a scout/warrior with good equips loaded up on astral energy.
