fatalism, how to complete mission?

Im in the fatalism map. How I do to complete it? I have killed the big shambler (i think its called so) but when I jump down the shaft, I get mission failed.

Tried to return through front door but theres no way to return.

How I do to upload the CD?

Or do I need to somehow avoid the shambler fight? Not access Fatalism level at all?

I do get thrown back to the hub with the mission uncompleteable.
guess I missed something there so it gets me to that "Communication Lost" trap.

What do you mean by 'Mission Failed'? If you see your character from behind, as well as your chapter stats after jumping down the shaft, well, that's how it's supposed to end. You may call it a bad ending: that marine is lost but the unit is considered complete on your end.

erc: Aha, the CD with seismic data never got uploaded.

It says:
"Communication Lost: Mission Failed" on the screen after seeing my character behind locked into a cell.

Yup, that's the way it goes, sadly. If the button for the mission is red (unusable) once you are back at Gateway Station (hub), everything's OK on your end. You can continue on.

Recall that earlier in the mission before you start the shambler fight, the game warns you that there will be a sacrifice.

lumberjack: I tought that referred to using the altar to open the door. It was the same in Quake 1, it hinted you need to sacrifying something to progress forwards, and that was shooting the altar.

You finished the map. There is only 1 ending and that ending is supposed to say "mission failed" because that is the story. Each part of call of the machine is played as a new soldier on a new mission. Some are successful, this dude was not.

Amazing how it connects to Quake 1. This expansion alone is worth replaying the entire game and the older ones.
