Quake 2 Remaster Textures are AWFUL..(Comparison Screenshots)
Quake 2 RTX: https://i.ibb.co/mz231ZY/Screenshot-2023-08-10-17-14-31.png

Quake 2 Remastered (texture smoothing off): https://i.ibb.co/LS736tp/Screenshot-2023-08-10-17-12-44.png

Quake 2 Remastered (texture smoothing on): https://i.ibb.co/z5zsL7d/Screenshot-2023-08-10-17-12-36.png

Someone told me the blurry textures came from "Texture smoothing"....no actually you are WRONG. Look how BAD these textures are in this "Remaster"...are you kidding me? Why didn't they just combine the two? Am I missing something???

I dont know the code to post images here so i just posted the link to each screenshot

*Update*
Made a quick 1 minute video comparing the textures of the RTX Build to the "Remastered" (GTA Trilogy Version) of Quake 2

any thing i turn off makes it look worse than what it looks like the Remaster is obviously a inferior product compared to the RTX version. thats for damn sure

Why would you think this would be better than a tech demo for Ray-Tracing?

How does it compare to the original Quake 2 non-RTX?

my understanding is that this release is meant to replicate the original release, while the RTX version had many enhancements done to the textures to take advantage of the new lighting systems.

I'm sure the RTX textures will get ported one day by modders if it's not done officially.
RTX was a marketing thing, nothing more. Just like Portal RTX. And RTX looks ugly on old games.
The Remastered has original textures. You can use the filter or turn it off, and enjoy the pixelated look. Why would ANYONE change that? Quake 1 and 2 still look good if you remove texture filtering. Some games benefit from higher resolution textures, but they must NOT be too high resolution, otherwise there is a big dissonnance.

Slapping High Resolution Textures on VERY low polygon counter models makes everything look awful. So in the end, RTX version looks horrible.
It's just an NVIDIA Gimmick. Games that are actually made with RTX in mind look good, those are modern games. But Portal RTX ran like crap on non 40XX cards, and that was on purpose, to promote those cards. But we all know 30XX series was FAR better.

Youre tripping if you think the RTX version looks worse?.... https://youtu.be/eksoPDCWFu8

And it doesnt look any different on the DX11 version either...
kripcision Aug 10, 2023 @ 2:40pm
well i can say this version is much better than the original. i couldnt care less about ray tracing.

I wonder if existing texture mods will work in the remaster.
I don't care if you made this or not. RTX looks awful in old games. It's a tech demo and nothing more to promote Ray-Tracing by NVIDIA.

High Resolution Textures shouldn't be put on Lower Poly Models. That's the rule, it has always been the rule. If you are making a low-poly game, for example an indie game, you should never use High Resolution Textures.

It's worse, no, awful. I like the chunky look of the Original PC, and the PS1 and the N64.
The new settings they added don't change the game so much, so they look decent.
Especially if you disable texture smoothing, like you should for any retro game.

It's supposed to look like that. Having super high res textures with blocky models look terrible.

I think you misunderstood my comment. I suggested comparing this remake to the _NON_ rtx original.

This release isn't meant to be an enhanced version of Quake 2, but a modernised port of it. The RTX version had enhancements everywhere so the RTX lighting could be shown off.
