Beside, there are many sourceport for the game, and most of them add so many features that over shadow the Quake 4 game. I suggest you the "Berserker" sourceport, you can find it on moddb.
Also, there is already some sort of remake for Doom 3 (same engine as Quake 4, idTech4). It's called "Quake 2: Lost Marine" and you can also find it on moddb.

You are actually incorrect here, it was actually the PSX version which had the maps chopped up. The PSX version used all the original maps in chopped up form while the N64 had completely new maps.
The PSX had more problems then the N64 version, not only was it's maps chopped up into many smaller ones but it had pretty bad frames per second and horrible texture warping.
