1. Download
2. unpack
3. copy contents to your steamapps/common/Quake2 folder, using copy and replace when promped
4. save the xpconfig.cfg, located in your baseq2 folder, to an alternate location
5. to play start using quake2xp exicutable (you may want to add as a shortcut to your desktop)
I don't know if it has updated all textures but but alot are, many textures will now also have specular mapps, also adds alot of modern post processing, fxaa, lighting effects etc.
not your graphics card limits when adjusting video settings as you can cause the game to crash on startup. should this happen delete xpconfig.cfg and replace it with the one you saved in step 4
Note: this mod will also allow many 64 bit who crash the normal game on startup to play
the modder has a newer beta version, but the downloads are scattered, and for me both cumbersome to install and currently unstable. that said they can be found here at his sourceforge page:

I've googled for like an hour, and i keep finding the same weapon pack that doesn't keep the original design completely intact.
Guess i'l just keep playing with the default blurry weapons. :(
