Moreover, id is asking for money for a game that won't work, and they dont have the decency to make the port themselves, instead you have to use the work of other people who aren't seeing a penny.

Ya, just pure lazyness.
Well I have a copy of Quake 2 that I got from a friend and was able to copy the exe file from the game program then deleted the steam file for quake 2 compleatly and made steam search for my file and add it to my libary. After that I was able to play and if you wanted the dlc files to work you need to transfer them from steams folder into the Quake 2 folder which it would boot from. Its a odd way around it but I am sure you can go and find some place where you can get a copy for free or cheap
