Oh yea why is everyone making these berserker threads? Is it really that bad? I mean doesn't seem any worse to me than all the damn orbs in quake 1 chasing me around everywhere.
I think the sound issues are the worst part of this remaster. And everyone keeps defending the terrible sound while ignoring everyone who is getting sound issues. But we never got sound issues on any game we ever purchased on steam ever including quake1.
Yeah I forgot to mention the music is still busted.
Don't get me wrong, I can handle the new Berzerker behavior (because I am an FPS god) but it still gives me a mad frighten every time it happens. But the recoil of the original machine gun was kind of a staple of the genre, it's weird they took it out like it was some sort of a bug instead of a conscience design choice.
The Berserker jump is annoying since it can knock you down into an inescapable death pit, but it doesn’t do that much damage. It just feels weird and unintuitive that you can take 1 point of damage and still get flung across the room.
Exactly. If the chaingun makes the machinegun irrelevant, why not remove the machinegun altogether?
Quake 2 should make you feel like a regular Marine kicking butt with the tools available. Not a superhuman. The Strogg attacked Earth first remember.
And the Berzerker was a BS enemy even before the leap attack.
How was Berserker BS? I thought they were extremely underwhelming.
The complaints about the berserker are pretty valid. I had one do a leap attack while I was on the high ground and it still hit me for a few points of damage. He was far down enough that I would have taken more damage from the fall. I wouldn't mind if the range got adjusted a smidge.
The Spawns are much worse than the Berserkers. The Berserkers, even with their new leap attack are still easy to hit and take down, and the splash damage falloff on their slam is pretty generous.
Spawns, on the other hand, are frustratingly difficult to hit at all, and on top of that soak up a good amount of damage, and deal significant damage with both their melee attack and their death explosion.
I totally understand the frustration with the Berserker's slam attack range, but let's not pretend that even with it they're on par with the Spawns. They're really not. Thankfully it's going to be addressed in a future patch.
As for the removal of recoil on the machine gun, it's a much welcome change. It was totally out of place compared to the rest of the sandbox. From the time I put into the original version, I just avoided the machine gun all together. Why bother, when I can do more damage, easier, with the Shotgun and Super Shotgun? Now it's a weapon I actually enjoy using, and a great alternative at longer ranges.
It's not perfect, and some locations were not designed for berserker to leap at player, but it certainly is more fun to play.
Oh those damn spike mines!
