The Berzerker's new leap attack can go **** itself
That is all.

Oh, and why did they nerf the recoil on the machine gun? It made it challenging and fun to use.

New expansion kicks butt. I feel like they added the compass feature just for it, as there is a lot of head-scratching in the level layouts.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk

Hmm I don't mind recoil much either like in fear the standard AR has some kick which makes it feel powerful and realistic.

Oh yea why is everyone making these berserker threads? Is it really that bad? I mean doesn't seem any worse to me than all the damn orbs in quake 1 chasing me around everywhere.
I think the sound issues are the worst part of this remaster. And everyone keeps defending the terrible sound while ignoring everyone who is getting sound issues. But we never got sound issues on any game we ever purchased on steam ever including quake1.

Yeah I forgot to mention the music is still busted.

Don't get me wrong, I can handle the new Berzerker behavior (because I am an FPS god) but it still gives me a mad frighten every time it happens. But the recoil of the original machine gun was kind of a staple of the genre, it's weird they took it out like it was some sort of a bug instead of a conscience design choice.

I miss MG recoil a bit but it’s not a big deal because once you get the Chaingun your bullets are better spent feeding that monster of a gun and you can basically forget MG even exists.

The Berserker jump is annoying since it can knock you down into an inescapable death pit, but it doesn’t do that much damage. It just feels weird and unintuitive that you can take 1 point of damage and still get flung across the room.

MG recoil never made sense to begin with. Our protagonist can fire a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ chaingun without skipping a beat, no reason why a flimsy normal-people-handheld-gun should rock, like, at all. Berserkers ain't too bad. Those suckers got enough audio cues to them so you won't get surprised and once you know they're around, the usual "keep mobile & kick ass" reflexes kick in. I find myself forced getting mobile by those pricks, as opposed to dancing back & forth which most certainly isn't too bad.

Exactly. If the chaingun makes the machinegun irrelevant, why not remove the machinegun altogether?

Quake 2 should make you feel like a regular Marine kicking butt with the tools available. Not a superhuman. The Strogg attacked Earth first remember.

And the Berzerker was a BS enemy even before the leap attack.

Because it was in original game? Now it’s at least a bit stronger.

How was Berserker BS? I thought they were extremely underwhelming.

The complaints about the berserker are pretty valid. I had one do a leap attack while I was on the high ground and it still hit me for a few points of damage. He was far down enough that I would have taken more damage from the fall. I wouldn't mind if the range got adjusted a smidge.

You mean the Spawn? Well, imagine if they hit you by striking a wall 30 feet away.

The Spawns are much worse than the Berserkers. The Berserkers, even with their new leap attack are still easy to hit and take down, and the splash damage falloff on their slam is pretty generous.

Spawns, on the other hand, are frustratingly difficult to hit at all, and on top of that soak up a good amount of damage, and deal significant damage with both their melee attack and their death explosion.

I totally understand the frustration with the Berserker's slam attack range, but let's not pretend that even with it they're on par with the Spawns. They're really not. Thankfully it's going to be addressed in a future patch.

As for the removal of recoil on the machine gun, it's a much welcome change. It was totally out of place compared to the rest of the sandbox. From the time I put into the original version, I just avoided the machine gun all together. Why bother, when I can do more damage, easier, with the Shotgun and Super Shotgun? Now it's a weapon I actually enjoy using, and a great alternative at longer ranges.

No, it's not. Quite contrary. New AI behavior and attacks makes Quake II actually more fun to play.
It's not perfect, and some locations were not designed for berserker to leap at player, but it certainly is more fun to play.
The recoil on the machine gun made it feel way more powerful. Other than that and the Berzerkers being more BS than ever, the game is still fantastic (just read my original review, LoL).

If it went and ♥♥♥♥♥♥ itself, then it will only multiply. Is that what you want? More leap attacks?

Oh those damn spike mines!
FixbotWill Sep 16, 2023 @ 10:11am
I'm not defending the Spawn, they're commonly seen as a negative play experience; same with the new Berserker, same with the old version of the Ground Zero Turret. And yeah, I'd put spike mines in that category too, frankly

I just got back from playing and I tried to drop the bridge into the lava but he jumped in the air just when I pressed the button and he flew over and killed me.:steamhappy:
