Less speed

I’d like to play Quake 2 with less speed.
I know you can insert in the console the command “cl_forwardspeed 60,70,ecc”.
In quake 1 I have done this only one time ,modifying the file kexengine.
In quake 2 on the contrary if I modify that file the speed does not change.It changes only if I put the command in the console.
I have modified every file config that I have found in Quake 2 ,but the speed does not change the same.
Some suggestions ?

I would suggest to put "set cl_forwardspeed x" to Saved Games\Nightdive Studios\Quake II\baseq2\autoexec.cfg

Or better to put it to your cfg file and write "exec your_file.cfg" in autoexec.cfg.

there's a weapon bob setting somewhere in the options (Display or Accessibility?)

Try to change bobskip_0, bob_up, bob_pitch, bob_roll.
