LAN game Switch/PS5 doesn't find lobby
Heya. I have the "new" Quake II now for 3 platforms and I'm very excited. First thing I tried was playing between my PS5 and my Switch in LAN (PS5 is in wired LAN and the Switch in Wifi) - unfortunately the two devices don't see eachother currently. I tried hosting on both sides, no success. I would try Online mode instead but I don't have a Nintendo subscription which makes Online mode unavailable. I will try to do this with my pc too but maybe some of you guys have either a PS5 or Switch or both and can try this and confirm it does work or not. Thanks!

p.s.: I tried it now between PC and Swtich, LAN game, both in the same wifi, wifi configured in Router (Fritzbox) in a way that devices may see eachother - no success.

Have you tried 'Local'?

Just did more testing. As far as I understand "local" is only splitscreen mode. I got this working on my PS5 (btw: It has to be noted that all controllers need to be turned on BEFORE you start the game, otherwise this doesn't show other local players!)
I tried LAN mode (create & join) in all possible combinations now between PC, PS5 and Switch. It never finds a lobby or a running game. I cannot test if it would work between two devices of the same kind, like for example 2 PCs because I have only 1 license per device and don't want to spend more money for something I don't know will be working.

I tried ONLINE mode between PS5 and PC via roomcode which works but was very skippy in the 2 minutes that I tested it. I have a gigabit LAN at home and 500/100Mbit fibre connection (Germany) - so I blame those subscription online services with their servers somewhere in the US or maybe Australia. ;-) As I said I cannot test ONLINE mode on the Switch because it asks for a Nintendo subscription in order to work which suxx.

I also tried joining a LAN game via IP using the command line and the "connect <server>" command on the PC which doesn't do much. With all its oldschool character and settings I cannot believe there isn't a join via IP option that simply allows the more experienced user to join another device without an paid online service. This is also bad for all kinds of LAN parties. I have the hope that I'm overseing someting and that this console maybe makes IP join or server setup possible somehow. So if somebody can point me to a documentation or tutorial, I'd be greatful.

Hi Insaner,

same question here: How can i join a PC-Hosted LAN-Game with the switch-version? Did you find a solution?

LAN crossplay is only between Xbox and PC. Switch and PlayStation do not have this, where crossplay is online only, thus on LAN they can only play amongst their own platforms.

Do you know if there are plans to add it in? I preordered the LRG Switch copy specifically for LAN Parties, and had to wait three months just to find out it doesn't work. I like you Nightdive guys, escpecially knowing a lot of you from Doomworld. You guys do fantastic work, and I want to see you guys succeed- but Bethesda's abhorrently ignorant Customer Support in all this has just left me feeling incredibly burned, and I'm considering refunding all the copies I've bought out of spite and washing my hands of dealing with them.

It's a matter of console policy, entirely out of Bethesdas control. LAN support between consoles was never advertised as being possible, except for the Xbox and PC where that was announced in a changelog. Online play is the only way to have complete crossplay coverage.

See, I can understand that, but Bethesda Support couldn't even confirm or deny if it even was even supported, instead telling me to contact Valve and Nintendo customer support about THEIR game

Not directly, but the remaster announcement doesn't err that thought, advertising LAN support for the "true QuakeCon experience" on the very next line after announcing crossplay, and nowhere on any of the official pages does it state that it DOESN'T work

Such things are usually a case of mistaken communication. If you feel that you were clear in your communication then feel free to forward the message to me and I'll see what or if anything needs doing, however LAN support in titles is quite uncommon and the question may not have been understood.

I can only apologize but that's not actually indicative of eachother. One is LAN, the other is crossplay, they aren't automatically the same feature. I rather wish you'd have gotten ahold of me on Doomworld sooner as you claim to know us there, as I could have cleared this up for you sooner.

Also the announcment page on Bethesda's page says "LAN play is also supported across all platforms", which evidently needs worded better

No, you're right, they're not. But the way it was advertised was rather vague, and the update notes mentioning it for Xbox didn't help clear things up.

LAN is supported on all platforms though. That sentence, word for word, is correct. Different console platforms can't talk to eachother offline, that's an entirely different stipulation.

Yes, but these features are advertised back to back, and nowhere on the page does it mention the two features don't work in tandem. Similarly, it advertises Split-Screen on the same paragraph as LAN, which DOES work in tandem with LAN/Online (whereas it didn't in the first Quake Remaster)

Regardless, if you guys are unable to add LAN Switch/PC crossplay, I understand. It's an awful, money-grubbing policy on Nintendo/Sony's part, but that's out of your hands, and it renders those versions worthless, in my use case. :Ghost_Trick:
