Pak extractor or some such???
DuckDuckGo is not being very helpful. Most i find is for Q1, not Q2... any help would be nice.
I want to mock around with the base game files, but hard to do if i can't even get at them.

well that was a waste of time.
No way to edit player's max health for instance or edit weapons and their behaviour...
Like fire rate or damage or what ever...

I think those details are hidden inside either the game.dll or the .exe files... guess i'm back to square one...
Was hoping it was as simple as opening and editing the .pak files, but nope... nothing is ever that easy...

It actually is that easy for quake 4. im currently looking into removing max ammo cap.

i personally prefer that over unlimited, because you still have to conserve for harsh levels.

How'd you get to the point that we are talking about Quake 4 of all games?
Heck your talking about Quake 4 in a Quake 2 discussion board on a Quake 2 topic...
Quake 4 uses the Id3 engine, not the Id2 engine. Q2 uses Id2 engine.
Rage uses Id4 engine (just pointing that out) They even advertised it back when the game was announced. But to go back to topic: Still no luck at mocking around with the Q2 files for messing with weapons.

The reason Id3 engine is so easy is because things was made more open due to the popularity of modding Q1 and when Q2 and Q3A came around, modding was stagnated due to how closed the code were, so Id Software made the decision to open the next game engine up more. That is why Id3 game engine (Quake 4, Doom 3.. etc) is so easy to modify.
And the result speaks for it self. Modding flourished and the games ended up lasting longer and sell more games over a longer period of time compared to Q2 and Q3A.
