Safe to play?
Just wanted to know if with the actual version 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 (GOG) the game got most of it's stuff fixed and can be finished without issues, or is there something to keep in mind?

The first patch addressed some severe issues, but there are bugs left behind. Regardless, people were able to play normally, finish the game and unlock its achievements. However, judging by the reports made so far, you should bear in mind that the game still remains in a somewhat unpolished state.

I wonder if we can get any developers to comment on this. Are we going to get any patches anymore? When?
According to a message from a developer posted on the game's Discord server, the team "ran out of budget to do new patches". He goes on to say: "we did our maximum to solve most bugs in the time we had. Sorry we can't do more for now".

I ended up playing the game until the end, unlocking all of its achievements myself. It is perfectly playable right now, with some minor issues that can be avoided easily. I'd say you may go on and check it out, as there's nothing severely broken or disfunctional.

Roger. What'd be those avoidable issues?. I already finished the original game some years ago so spoilers are fine (Unless they added something new etc, besides the obvious child-add on)
Basically, it's advisable to play the game with its V-Sync option enabled, while keeping all other V-Sync solutions offered by your graphics card disabled. You should also enforce an FPS cap of 60 while running it, just to be extra safe. A number of bugs are tied to these rendering aspects and tend to occur if you don't apply the settings I mentioned.

Aside from that, just be mindful of climbing ladders, as they're kinda fickle. It's a good idea to always align Twinsen nicely to a ladder before approaching it. I remember this rebel NPC who died in the Hamalayi fortress path after accidentally falling into the ocean — he didn't respawn afterwards as intended, so I was forced to leave the island and return to it to reset the script routine. You may want to keep at least two save files during your playthrough and alternate between them, just as a precaution.
